Summary

Spire is seeking a Business Development Specialist to work in the St. Louis operation. This position will be responsible for contributing to customer growth through various means including identifying, actively pursuing and securing conversion opportunities, facilitating builder/contract requests for service, and providing back-office support.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support Organic Growth through handling builder/developer service requests and assisting customers requesting to convert from other sources of energy to natural gas or obtain new gas service
  • Utilize internal systems such as GIS, other departments and all tools necessary to identify conversion opportunities & to streamline projects/ opportunities and processes
  • Present energy studies and cost-analysis presentations to potential conversion candidates
  • Complete all duties associated with a growth opportunity including reaching out to potential customers via written communication, personal visits and community meetings, interacting with builders and developers, etc.
  • Communicates and coordinates gas main/service/meter installation with internal departments, builders/developers, and potential customers in efforts to convert appliances to natural gas or establish new gas service
  • Utilize Economic Analysis to determine rate of return and contribution in aid of construction (if applicable)
  • Utilize GIS/IMAP to determine gas availability, main location, piping type, size, etc.
  • Provide information to potential customers related to FAQ’s on converting to natural gas through various venues including Home Owners Association meetings
  • Understands and successfully communicates natural gas benefits, rebates and processes to customers & to key industry personnel
  • Use SalesForce to track all sales opportunities and monitor progress toward individual and departmental goals
  • Works with Corporate Communications to develop marketing & informational materials
  • Participate in educational programs for industry and trade allies
  • Perform administrative functions as needed
  • Assist in special projects as assigned and communicate project status and results to staff and management
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering discipline or equivalent work experience

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • One or two years of sales or equivalent experience directly interfacing with customers preferred
  • SalesForce experience preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Normal Work Environment - Work is normally performed in a shared office environment and occasionally performed remotely in the field
  • Typically, 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday
  • Minimal overtime/travel required
