Overview:
This position supervises and controls the Company’s inventory at a competitive cost. The buyer will purchase material for company sales and develop and maintain good vendor relationships. They will work with inventory management to achieve maximum inventory turns while maintaining adequate inventory to serve the current market requirements.
Responsibilities:
  • Negotiate purchases of stock with qualified buyers
  • Be proficient in all aspects of the purchasing system
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships
  • Uncover and develop new sources of supply
  • Monitor Company’s average cost and inventory by reviewing selected reports on a daily basis
  • Replenish inventory in a timely manner
  • Work on improving inventory turns in all purchasing decisions
  • Use 80/20 principle in long term purchasing decisions
  • Provide pertinent information and feedback to purchasing management staff about suppliers. Including staff changes, price announcements, changes in lead times and operational changes.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years purchasing experience, preferably in the metals industry or other related field

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:

  • Proficient in MS Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well and excel while working with a team or individually
