PURPOSE:
Participants of Calumet’s Early Career Development (ECD) program will build a foundational knowledge and core skills in key areas of the refining and specialties business that includes economics & planning, crude supply, commercial optimization, and financial modeling.

PROGRAM ROTATIONS:
Calumet’s ECD program lasts approximately two (2) years and there are four (4) rotations, each of which will typically last six (6) months. Participants and the program administrator will work in conjunction to determine the track each one will take. The rotation options include Economics & Planning, Crude Supply, Commercial, Finance, and Engineering.

ROTATION LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Crude Supply:
  • Develop a working knowledge of crude deal lifecycle
  • Analyze and organize crude logistics and scheduling
  • Demonstrate knowledge of crude pricing
  • Analyze, revise, and apply quality control standards
  • Basic awareness of legal contracts and trading
Economics & Planning:
  • Develop a working knowledge of the economic drivers for Calumet’s Specialty Products & Solutions (SPS) business
  • Develop extensive proficiency in analyzation tools
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the North-West Louisiana (NWL) plants and their relationship with each other and with Calumet.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the individual production units, how they operate, and the value proposition to get them to optimized states.
  • Apply Calumet product knowledge to formulate suggestions on how to overachieve across all commercialization.
Commercial Optimization:
  • Working knowledge of Calumet business from the customer side end to end
  • Provide analysis and suggestions on commercial process improvement
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of effective customer troubleshooting
  • Develop understanding of inventory management
Finance & Modeling:
  • Working knowledge of financial modeling
  • Develop understanding of what drives financial results for the business by evaluating product lines and material margin trends.
  • Analyze and apply fixed and capital asset accounting
  • Extensive understanding of Calumet financial reporting
  • Working knowledge of budgeting and forecasting process
  • Basic awareness of cost accounting & product costing principles
Engineering:
  • Proficient understanding of KPIs and their importance
  • Analyze and apply PSM
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of process troubleshooting
  • Provide analysis and suggestions on unit optimization
  • Practical application of academic and independent studies
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, Finance, or related field from an accredited university
  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience (internships, co-ops, etc.)
  • GPA greater than or equal to 3.0/4.0 overall
  • Orientation towards a career in leadership in areas such as business, engineering, finance, economics, or sales.
  • Geographic mobility during the program
