Position Overview:

This position is responsible for providing direct and indirect maintenance and upkeep for Camp Fire Camp Waluhili to ensure that it is safe and that it meets the needs of staff and clients.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

This role will come in contact with students, campers, visitors, vendors and employees. Each of these persons may have visible and invisible qualities that makes that person unique. Ensures that Waluhili facility, fleet, and equipment are in compliance with all ACA, Camp Fire, county, state, and governmental guidelines.

Supervises and/or coordinates contractors, maintenance workers, county employees, Camp Fire staff, and volunteers.

Lives onsite at Camp Waluhili facility-(negotiable based on need and availability).

Tracks and monitors use of camp inventory including paper goods, tools, and building supplies.

Job Duties:

  • Provides “first line” of maintenance for Waluhili facilities and fleet.
  • Identifies projects outside of personal skill-set and solicits contractor bids.
  • Supports Camp Waluhili Camp Director and remains on site as a resource, when required.
  • Works with Camp Fire Green Country team on strategic plan for the facility.
  • Collaborates with Camp Waluhili Camp Director on creation and maintenance of facility and rental budgets.
  • Brings opportunities for donated and discounted materials and services to the attention of the Camp Director and/or Executive Director.
  • Serves as a steward and protector of the Camp Waluhili environment.
  • Supports Camp Director and Camp Staff as needed to ensure highest quality summer camp experiences, and client experiences.
  • Supports Camp Director to ensure the highest quality experience for all rental groups.
  • Acts as “on-call” support for Camp Waluhili programs and facility.
  • Maintains positive relationship with neighbors, local officials, and shareholders.
  • Provides clear direction and priorities to direct reports and support them in the development of work-plans achieving success.
  • In accordance with HR policies, conducts frequent informal performance assessment with direct reports, and formal performance assessment annually.
  • Ensures availability to key staff for both structured and more informal, as-needed support.
  • Ensures that high expectations and accountability are balanced by fun, compassion, and support.
  • Supports the mission, purpose and leadership of Camp Fire and projects a positive image of Camp Fire.
  • Attends Camp Fire meetings and events, as required.
  • Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with coworkers, volunteers, parents, and contractors; including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
  • Respectfully takes direction from supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises seasonal Camp Ranger. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1-3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A high level of competence in all facets of facility maintenance, including but not limited to all aspects of carpentry and building, plumbing, electrical, septic, lawn and garden.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Computer Skills:

Has advanced basic computer job skills including logging on to systems, ability to communicate by email, ability to compose documents, enter database information, create presentations, download forms, and preserve/backup important data.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

This position requires a valid Oklahoma Food Handler’s card, First Aid & CPR certification, and a valid insurable Driver’s License. Small Water System Operator, and Certified Pool Operator to be completed during employment. Lifeguard is preferred.
