Weekly Rate: Starting at $400-D.O.E.

Position Summary:


Kitchen Staff is responsible for the preparation of three meals per day for approximately 150-200 campers and adults. Kitchen staff will enhance the GSCTX camp experience through positive interactions with campers and staff, prompt and high-quality food preparation, and flexible assistance when needed in food-based programming.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the safety of all campers during their stay at Girl Scouts of Central Texas camps by following all policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Assist in the preparation of meals according to posted menus.
  • Assist in other kitchen duties, including but not limited to: washing and putting away of dishes, cleaning the kitchen, ensuring food storage areas are clean and organized, preparing cook out supplies.
  • Ensures that other dietary needs of campers and staff are being met with alternatives that are as close to the main menu as possible.
  • Ensure the health and safety of campers and staff by following Health Department food handling requirements for food preparation and food storage standards.
  • Ensure the kitchen, dining hall, food storage areas, and equipment are maintained, in good working order, clean and ready for use at all times.
  • Inform Kitchen Manager of needed food and housekeeping supplies.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with staff and creating harmonious relationships with campers, parents, and staff.
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
  • Ensures the harmonious running of camp by providing quality meals on time for all campers and staff.
  • Must be willing to assist as needed in living units working with unit staff to directly supervise campers, including but not limited to overnight staffing coverage and day to day activities.
  • Maintaining high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
  • Ensure work areas and activities are safe and meet the requirements of the American Camp Association, Texas State Health Department, and GSCTX.
  • Provide quality camper experience that resolves concerns in a timely manner.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including participation in camper activities such as (but not limited to): cook out, check in, check out, all camp activities, themed days or meals, and duties at meals.
  • Assisting with daily, weekly, and end of season camp cleaning responsibilities
  • Promote and support Girl Scout program philosophies of the GSUSA & GSCTX in a positive manner to the public and co-workers.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by June 1, 2023.
  • Adhere to the Personnel Policies for Summer Camp Staff.
  • Current Texas Food Handlers Certification or ability to get certified by camp start.
  • Experience in quantity cooking preferred.
  • Exhibits mature and responsible behavior at all times.
  • Exhibits good judgment and risk management assessment skills.
  • Continuous ability to work well on a team.
  • Knowledge of Girl Scout culture and camp experience preferred.
  • Must reside on camp property.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending and twisting upper body.
  • Ability to stay on feet for several hours a day.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50lbs.

ENVIRONMENT DEMANDS

  • Continuous outdoor activity and exposure to weather.
  • Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours with limited equipment and facilities, with daily exposure to sun, heat, and insects.
  • Willingness to live in camp facilities that may not have AC.

OTHER WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Continuous requirement for professional demeanor and appropriate camp staff attire at all times.
  • A criminal background check is required.
  • Continuous work as a team member and ability to work independently with some supervision.
  • Frequent work under stress and under pressure of deadlines with overlapping projects.
  • Continuous ability to work well with others.
  • Continuous ability to follow and enforce all Health & Safety guidelines.
