Job Summary

The Campus Security Supervisor is responsible to ensure a safe, secure, and friendly environment for un'ina, employees, and visitors, by providing oversight of security personnel, services, and systems for all Tribal facilities and activities. Oversee the management and use of security and safety systems, including CCTV, fire control, and badge/entry systems Plan, direct, and participate in safety and security related trainings for staff. Develop and foster close, positive working relationships with the leaders of local first responders, to include the City of Kenai (Fire Chiefs/Captains, Fire Marshal, Police Chief/Lieutenant, etc.) as well as Borough and State agencies as necessary. At all times, the Campus Security Supervisor should promote and actively utilize de-escalation techniques to address confrontational or hostile situations, escalating concerns as necessary to local law enforcement agencies. The Campus Security Supervisor will be required to be on call to provide support to the Tribe during non-business hours.

Essential Functions

  • Provide frequent, friendly interactions with un'ina, staff, and visitors to promote the safety and security of Tribal properties, facilities, and functions, while addressing any safety or security issues or concerns in a polite, professional manner
  • Directly supervise security personnel, to include training and performance evaluation
  • Direct and manage the surveillance of public areas on Tribal properties/facilities via foot patrol, vehicle patrol, CCTV systems, or a combination thereof
  • Ensure the routine checking of entry doors, locks, and security systems, as well as fire control and badge systems
  • Respond to any safety or security issue, incident, or concern, providing assistance as necessary, and notify the necessary authorities as required
  • When responding to medical emergencies, be prepared to render basic first aid and life support, including CPR and AED
  • Secure the location of any safety or security incident and begin the necessary reporting process
  • Conduct joint investigations of safety and security incidents with the HSE Advisor
  • Prepare, review, and/or evaluate log entries and incident reports, following Tribal policies and procedures
  • Maintain consistent presence to deter vagrancy, including direct interaction with persons appearing to loiter or who display signs of illicit activity, e.g. looking in cars, panhandling, etc.
  • Request no trespass orders and assist local law enforcement in serving those orders
  • Create and maintain budgets, reports, and performance dashboards as assigned
  • Plan, write, edit, and maintain Tribal policies and procedures pertaining to security
  • Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or related field, or consideration for similar work experience

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of previous security experience in a professional setting.
  • 1 to 3 years of previous supervisory experience.
  • Experience writing reports.

Preferred

  • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
  • Experience writing policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Alaska Native populations.
  • Knowledge and experience with conflict resolution/de-escalation techniques

License/Certification

  • Certification in basic life support within 3 months of hire
  • Must possess valid Alaska driver's license and remain insurable under the Tribe's insurance policy
