Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associates Degree required; Bachelor of Science Degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Previous adult cardiac ultrasound experience required.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Registered or Registry Eligible in Adult Cardiac Sonography by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
  • Current driver’s license required due to travel required to satellite offices 20% - 40% of the time.
  • Currently registered with New Hampshire Board of Medical Technicians

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs simple and complex diagnostic echocardiograms ordered by the physician on adult and older adult inpatient and outpatient populations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Non-Invasive Cardiology and within established departmental policies and procedures and all applicable laws, the incumbent performs the following functions:

Reviews the physician’s requisition for completeness of information and checks for specific instructions. Reviews the patient’s medical record to obtain pertinent clinical history and correlates data with exam to be performed. Consults with physicians as necessary.

Greets patient and confirms patient identification. Explains the examination procedure to patient and family and ascertains their understanding prior to initiating procedure.

Performs echocardiogram, transesophageal echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, dobutamine stress echocardiograms. Reviews images for identification, technique and completeness. Completes preliminary report of findings that include necessary measurements and calculations using a digital review station. Participates in reading session with physician when possible and contributes technical knowledge and observation to the final diagnostic impression.

Performs removal of peripheral vein IV.

Performs visual safety inspection of equipment and environment. Observes equipment internal quality test results and notifies Manager, Non-Invasive Cardiology of any quality results that do not meet test standards. Ensures safety measures implemented as necessary for age specific patient population.

Maintains patient log and statistics. Completes paperwork. Enters charges into the computer. Retrieves patient records and places orders as appropriate into the EMR.

Recognizes emergency situations and provides assistance to the patient or health care team.

Retrieves and communicates test reports to physician offices, nursing units, surgery and other departments.

Maintains a teaching file. Copies studies on the digital review station for requesting physicians or patients. Maintains a current echo library.

Participates in the departmental Performance Improvement plan. Assists with Quality Assurance Program and ICAEL accreditation process as requested.

Maintains supplies and material resources. Evaluates new and existing equipment for performance, cost effectiveness and ability to provide state-of-the-art services.

Participates in Mobile Echo Services as needed. Represents Catholic Medical Center at the Mobile sites. Maintains excellent customer service at Mobile sties.

Performs office procedures in absence of clerical support personnel as needed.

Assists in clinical instruction of ultrasound students, Allied Health students, medical students and physicians. Provides demonstration of ultrasound instrumentation to medical staff and visitors to the Echocardiography Lab.

Maintains a clean, organized work environment conducive to patient and employee safety. Maintains equipment in good working order and reports Echo Lab maintenance needs to the appropriate hospital department.

Researches, plans, prepares and conducts presentations at Cardiology Conferences. Participates in educational forums for Echo Services.

Performs AV Optimization and Dysynchrony as needed.

Attends Departmental meetings. Serves on Committees as appointed or required.

Performs similar or related duties as directed or requested.
