Description:

Under medical direction of a Cardiologist and limited supervision of the Supervisor, performs scrub, panning and monitoring duties during cardiac catheterization following established work procedures. Focuses on complex activities such as special procedures, quality control and/or staff instruction requiring an advanced level of training and experience.

Diagnostic Rad Tech
Under general medical direction of a Cardiologist and limited supervision of the Invasive Cardiology Supervisor, performs scrub, panning and monitoring duties during cardiac catheterization. Performs a variety of technical procedures following established policy and procedures. Focuses on complex activities such as special procedures, quality control and/or staff instruction requiring an advanced level of training and experience

Surgery Tech
Under medical direction of Cardiologist and or Surgeon and supervision of the Supervisor. Provides care to patients during the intra-operative phase of surgical intervention. Is responsible for preparing the Hybrid room for the surgical procedure including instruments, equipment, and supplies. Maintains the sterile field during the surgical procedure. Performs scrub, panning and monitoring duties during cardiac catheterization following established work procedures. Focuses on complex activities such as special procedures, quality control and/or staff instruction requiring an advanced level of training and experience

What you will do:

  • Operates hemodynamic monitoring equipment during cardiac catheterization. Assess hemodynamic data during catheterization procedure and alerts physicians and circulating nurse to changes and abnormalities. Successfully completes hemodynamic monitoring and basic arrhythmia courses.
  • Performs surgical scrub duties utilizing aseptic technique. Sets up pressure lines and surgical pack pre-procedure using aseptic technique. Assists physician with placement of catheters. Prepares special procedure equipment including PTCA balloons, stents, arthrectomy devices, IABP and fem-to-fem bypass catheters and assists physician with placement and operation.
  • After successful completion of limited radiographer course, operates x-ray equipment and procedure table during procedures. Operates fluoroscopy during catheter placement.
  • Operates digital imagine archival and retrieval procedures..
  • Assesses hemodynamic data recorded during catheterization and calculates gradients, valve areas, shunts, ejection fractions, etc.
  • Has a working knowledge of cardiology computer system and assists with collection of database information. Demonstrates working knowledge of TIS computer system.
  • Discontinues arterial and venous catheters effectively achieving hemostasis at puncture site with adequate pressure.
  • Transports patients to nursing unit. Gives report to nursing staff in concise and informative manner, including diagnosis, procedure performed, present or possible complication(s), confirmation of pulses, physician orders, etc.
  • Cleans and stocks Cath lab after each procedure. Cleans and prepares reusable instruments for sterilization. Assists with ordering and maintaining adequate inventory of supplies in Cardiology.
  • Calibrates and sets up all pressure gauges, blood gas oximeter, oxygen consumption analyzer, contrast injector, physiologic monitor and any other equipment used during catheterization.
  • Actively participates in department meetings, committees, conferences, and in-services.

Surgery Tech

  • Sets up instrumentation and needed supplies for open procedures using sterile technique and prepares equipment appropriate for procedure. Performs surgical scrub duties such as first handling or assisting physician throughout the procedure.
  • Sets up and maintains instrumentation, needed supplies, and assists with preparation of needed vascular equipment during the endovascular procedure. Performs surgical scrub duties utilizing aseptic technique. Sets up pressure lines and surgical pack pre-procedure using aseptic technique. Assists physician with placement of catheters. Prepares special procedure equipment including PTCA balloons, stents, arthrectomy devices, IABP and fem-to-fem bypass catheters and assists physician with placement and operation.
  • Assumes responsibility of maintaining the Hybrid room and cath labs in a patient ready state, including cleaning and stocking of supplies/equipment.
  • Applies knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique relative to vascular procedures.
  • Applies principles of asepsis and infection control.

What we are looking for:

Cardiovascular Tech

  • Requires completion of a Cardiovascular Technology Associates Degree Program.
  • Registry eligibility required. Registry preferred.
  • Cath lab experience preferred.
  • BCLS required.
  • Is able to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team.
  • Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change.

Radiology Tech

  • Must be ARRT registered and licensed by the State of Iowa.
  • Cardiovascular-ARRT Interventional Technology Advanced Certification required within two (2) years of employment in the position or will no longer be qualified for the position.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Prior Cath Lab experience preferred.

Surgery Tech

  • Completion of an OR technology course and current certification as a Surgical Technologist required.
  • Must have a minimum of one to two years previous surgical experience, cardiovascular experience preferred.
  • BCLS certification required.
  • Demonstrates clinical competence and serves as a role model in clinical practice.
