The Career Consultant provides career development and employment placement assistance to Prince George’s County’s job seekers. One of the programs that this position will support is the Veteran Career Connections Program (VCC) that supports veterans, spouses, and transitioning service members as they move from active-duty military status to civilian employment. The program is designed to connect veterans and transitioning service members to employment opportunities available throughout the Washington, DC Metropolitan area.

The Career Consultant will provide individual career counseling and access to customized training and paid work-based learning opportunities with the goal of building civilian employment related skills. The career consultant will be evaluated according to their ability to meet performance goals for number of customers enrolled in programs, successfully completing training, and attaining credentials, entering employment, retaining employment, and attaining wages of a specified standard. This position requires Military affiliation. (Veteran, Veteran Spouse, Transitioning Service Member or Active-Duty Spouse) The Career Consultant reports to the Coordinator, Career Services, and works closely with multiple departments within the organization. This is not a supervisory position. This role is Exempt from overtime.

Essential Responsibilities:

Interaction with Program Participants

  • Interview participants and jointly establish individual service strategies and employment plans based on informal and formal assessments
  • Assist participant in choosing an appropriate career pathway based on assessments
  • Link participants with appropriate resources and services to accomplish career goals
  • Contact customers regularly in keeping with needs and guidelines of the Veterans Career Connection Program
  • Provide coaching and direction to keep participants on track in achieving their career goals
  • Assist participants in obtaining employment by identifying suitable job leads and making referrals
  • Deliver presentations and conduct orientations on eligibility and program services
  • Participate in recruitment and outreach events to build participant base

Case Management Regulatory Functions

  • Ensure that participants meet program eligibility requirements
  • Ensure that participant data is entered in MWE or another database system as stipulated
  • Ensure that training and support services requests are processed accurately and timely
  • Record activities and interactions with participants in MWE or other database system with case notes and accurate service codes in keeping with regulations
  • Coordinate job placement follow up services and ensure that they are recorded in database in keeping with regulations and internal policies
  • Complete reports as required to ensure the efficient and effective management of participant cases
