Department Overview: Commonpoint Queens Adult Workforce Department at The Jack and Shirley Silver Hub consists of employment and support programs serving individuals who are looking to obtain long-term employment. The Hub provides access to career counseling, job placement, occupational training, education, resources, and support programs for individuals who are motivated to enter the workforce.


The Career Pathways Job Developer is responsible for assisting our IT, Culinary Arts and Allied health students and graduates obtain internship opportunities, job offers and career advancement consistent with their career goals.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Work with the Director of Employer Partnerships, Employment Coordinators and Counselors to provide coaching and direct support to career pathway students/graduates within our Opportunity Youth and Adult Workforce divisions of the Jack and Shirley Silver Hub.
  • Responsible for developing new employer partners with a focus on our career pathway sectors: Information Technology, Culinary Arts and Allied health resulting in paid and unpaid internship opportunities and direct job placement support to meet monthly, quarterly and annual job placement goals.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients by directly collaborating with agency staff and building/searching for appropriate job leads if none exist within existing internal job listing or business relationships. Ensuring that the jobs cater to the interests and talent of the people on his/her caseloads
  • Assist in the documentation and collection of internship and job placement contracts, employment verifications and employer letters of support for grant applications and compliance reports.
  • Liaise with the Director of Employer Partnerships to discuss reporting, vocational training referrals, sector data trends and job matching updates.
  • Work with Senior level staff members to create and facilitate staff trainings and workshops that will strengthen the agency’s knowledge of labor market trends and career pathway program outcomes


  • Work closely with Employment Coordinators and Counselors to review job orders, including job requirements and skills; match job skills with client qualifications; match qualified clients to job orders, and conduct necessary follow-up when clients are placed in positions.
  • Guide clients through all facets of the job application process, including resume revisions, online applications, mock interview sessions, and networking.
  • Work closely with case management staff to coordinate social services referrals and generate ideas to help clients achieve their education and employment goals
  • Assist clients in developing appropriate social skills and work habits that will result in long term employment or career advancement opportunities.
  • Assist participants in removing barriers to employment by making connections to necessary services both within and outside Commonpoint
  • Attend trainings and staff meetings, as required
  • Assist with the generation of program reports and proposals for funding as needed
  • Possess strong digital literacy skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Knowledge of Google applications such as Gmail, Google Voice, Calendar usage, etc.
