This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation, paid sick time, paid holidays, as well as retirement.

This position is assigned to and located at the Eastern Region Maintenance Yard in Greenville, NC, but regularly assists at other locations as deemed necessary by the maintenance manager.

The primary purpose of this position is to supervise/oversee employees' immediate work while in the field, performing renovations and major repairs on both wooden and masonry structures, ensuring that those buildings within an adult correctional/juvenile justice facility and support building are maintained in a safe and efficient manner.

  • This position is required to perform at the journeyman level in the areas associated with carpentry and renovation and the repair of structure and roof systems of existing buildings.
  • This position provides technical guidance and support to other employees in the area of carpentry.
  • He/she will be expected to supervise the work of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled labor (including inmates) to assist him/her in completing assigned tasks and provide support to other employees in the area of carpentry renovation or other dutires assigned by the supervisor as deemed necessary.

Note to Current State Employees: The Salary Grade for this position is NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase/decrease MAY result.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document in the Description of Work section of their application that they possess ALL of the following were applicable:

Documented progressive experience at the journeyman level in the areas associated with carpentry and renovation and the repair of structure and roof systems of existing buildings.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school or General Educational Development diploma and* two years of experience in the construction or remodeling of wooden structures or in furniture repair or construction*; -OR-
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35,788.00 - $62,628.00 per year
