POSITION: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Community Healthcare Outreach Program (CHOP), Department of Population Health

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position reports to the Executive director of Population Health. CHOP is a primary care program that examines and treats patients in their homes, in facilities that house and provide medical care for seniors, and in behavioral health facilities. CMAs are trained to provide essential clinical and administrative support to Nurse Practitioners (NPs). CMAs also may be called upon to provide direct support to NPs during telemedicine visits. This is a full-time position, based in the field, and requires the ability to work independently.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Fluency in English and Spanish
  • Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle
  • CMA certification from one of the following organizations: National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); National Health Career Association (NHCA); American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Fluency in medical terminology
  • Experience consulting Electronic Medical Records (EMR or HER)
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and OSHA regulations and universal precautionary measures
  • Commitment to carrying out Nirvana’s corporate vision, mission, and values

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interview patients; confirm patient demographics and data via the interview
  • Review and update patient medical history, purpose of visit, diagnosis, treatment
  • Handle administrative tasks; these include sending faxes, making appointments, conducting chart reviews
  • Accurately measure and record patient’s vital signs
  • Collaborate with pharmacy technicians to complete medication reconciliations
  • Administer vaccines and/or injectables
  • Assist clinicians in closing gaps in care
  • Maintain an adequately stocked CHOP medical supply bag
