Reports to: Clinical Program Manager

Job Overview:

To ensure success, Medical Assistants are responsible for assisting Providers in providing individualized, above and beyond, telehealth care for their patients.

We are seeking:

Certified Medical Assistants (CMAs) who are flexible and interested in working in a telemedicine environment as part of a healthcare/research startup company. All members of the care team will be playing a role in helping shape the direction, culture and impact of the company as it grows! There will be frequent change, product improvements, and it is helpful if care team members are comfortable using new technology and software.

Is this you?

  • A Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with a minimum of 2 years of experience in an outpatient medical practice setting. Telehealth experience preferred.

  • Understanding & open-minded about illnesses that are not fully medically understood yet.
  • Dedicated to providing a positive care experience for people who need help for a condition that is still being understood, many of whom have had less-than-positive interactions with healthcare since becoming ill.
  • Computer skills: Including, reasonably fast typing speed, email, web-based research, working in several browser or provider interface windows simultaneously.
  • Open to change: We are a dynamic company with many moving parts.

Optional Qualifications:

  • Experience using Athena Health EHR
  • Experience participating in research studies or clinical trials
  • Multi-lingual
  • Experience working with kids, teens, adults
  • Experience working with complex illness, Long COVID, ME/CFS patients is helpful

Responsibilities:

  • CMAs who will excel at RTHM are comfortable with change and are interested in working in an evolving care setting where the tools you use to provide care are frequently updated and improved
  • CMAs will be a very key point of contact for patients during their health journey at RTHM, interacting with each patient via EHR messaging, rarely email, and periodically by video or phone to help make the patient journey as smooth as possible.
  • A RTHM CMA will be paired with each patient and stay with them throughout their care journey providing continuity & the ability to build meaningful relationships
  • The first CMA video call with each new patient on their panel will be 15-30min spent ensuring the various parts of the patient chart is ready to go for the upcoming clinician visit, and sending out ROIs to obtain records that are not accessible through the EHR.
  • Remotely pre-fill &/or verify existing patient chart information (medications, supplements, allergies, vitals, etc.) ahead of patient-provider visits
  • Review the visit summary/plan with patients 1-3 days after provider visits to help clarify items within the plan, and concisely document questions patients or families may have regarding the plan for the provider to answer, and schedule patients for their follow-up appt. (this will be quick & easy to do using the EHR's built in scheduling, and the goal will be teaching patients to self-schedule through the system).
  • Coordinate sending referrals and records to outside specialists for consults recommended by the care team.
  • Help patients set up or coordinate lab draws either at local labs, at home, etc. as recommended by the care team
  • Help patients find nearby imaging centers or lab locations if needed for imaging orders recommended by the care team.
  • Process medication refills that have been OK'd by the prescribing RTHM provider.
  • Reviewing serial vitals to make sure they were entered (or properly imported) into the EHR before provider visits.
  • Respond to patient questions in the EHR portal, left by voicemail, email, chat in a timely and respectful manner & forward questions that require providing medical advice to the appropriate care team member.
  • Giving and receiving regular feedback on strengths & weaknesses in the workflows, user interface, data presentation clarity & feedback/commentary.
  • Providing a positive patient experience in all interaction formats (video, phone, message, chat, etc.)
  • Assist with generating superbills to provide to patients. Helping to cancel memberships when requested by patients, and process refunds when approved by a supervisor.
  • There will be some data entry required for this position.
