Certified Nursing Assistant (Full Time- Night Shift)

The Saint Michael's Retirement Community located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is searching for a Full Time Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to work night shifts on:

Tuesdays: 10:30PM-8:00 AM

Wednesdays: 10:30PM-8:00 AM

Thursdays: 10:30PM-8:00 AM

Fridays: 4PM-8PM

Total 32.50 hours per week

The CNA will assist the retired Christian Brothers maintain optimal independence by assisting with activities of daily living. Observe the overall physical and psychological condition of the Brothers, records pertinent information; reports changes in conditions to the Saint Michaels Assisted Living Nurse Manager and maintains a safe, secure and healthy environment for the Brothers while also performing a variety of required daily, weekly and monthly cleaning tasks. The Christian Brothers are members of a Catholic religious order.

What you will do:

Under the direction of the Saint Michael's Assisted Living Nurse Manager the successful candidate will perform the following duties:

  • Assists the aging Brothers with personal care, which includes but is not limited to personal hygiene, oral care, shaving, showering, dressing, ambulation, therapeutic exercises, feeding, personal laundry and toileting. Such assistance will vary from Brother to Brother depending on their condition and ability.
  • Observes Brothers’ physical, psychosocial, cognition and adaptation conditions by monitoring vital signs; weights; intake and output; response to new medications; changes in conditions.Reports critical condition changes and accidents / incidents to the supervising Nurse immediately.
  • Maintains a safe, secure and healthy environment by following infection control standards, removing or (having removed) hazards from environment such as broken equipment; requests repair of repairable equipment; encourages the use of safety aides such as walkers where warranted; keeps supplies clean, organized and safely stored.Maintains neat, clean, organized workspace, kitchen area and treatment areas.
  • Stores clearly marked medications in locked cabinet(s),assists with medication administration as directed by the supervising nurse.
  • Notes any adverse reactions or side effects and reports these to the supervising nurse; may be required to report changes in condition or adverse reactions to medications to the physician if the registered nurse or licensed designee is unavailable.
  • Notes actual medication orders and makes changes on medication records as needed.
  • Keeps the supervising nurse informed of changes in medications made by the physicians.
  • Informs other health care professionals of medication changes as requested by the supervising nurse or designee.
  • Administers minor, routine treatments prescribed by a physician and as instructed by the supervising nurse or as instructed by home health / hospice nurses and/ or therapists.
  • Coordinates and organizes inventory of OTC medications, first aide supplies, juices, beverages, food supplies, paper products and other department supplies. Obtains supervising nurse approval before ordering supplies.
  • Processes medical, office and kitchen supply orders, receives shipments and reviews statements for accuracy prior to supervisor or director approval.
  • Rotates stock of supplies so that older supplies are used first.
  • Adheres to individual nursing plans of care.
  • Assists supervising nurse with coordination of care including special needs, medical and dental appointments, therapy, and home care.
  • Assists with department scheduling / assumes duty as directed.
  • Coordinates and prioritizes personal laundry assistance for more dependent Brothers.
  • Assists in coordination of housekeeping needs including special projects, emergency needs or changes needed or requested by the Brothers.
  • Follows daily schedule of community activities.
  • Encourage participation in recreational or therapeutic activities.
  • Assists coworkers, peers and supervisor as needed; maintains open lines of communication; welcomes new employees;assists in orientation and education of new staff and registry staff as needed.
  • Perform a variety of cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, polishing
  • Laundry Service – washes, dries, and fold linen and personal clothing, iron as needed.
  • Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees, etc.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen
  • Maintain proper handwashing guidelines.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to anticipate the needs of the Brothers with a predetermined treatment plan; responsive to immediate and long term needs
  • A collaborative team player actively contributing to building community
  • Maintain confidentiality of information, especially that of a medical and/or sensitive nature
  • Self-starter; ability to manage time and meet deadlines with little supervision
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining proficiency and accuracy
  • Ability to adjust to changing priorities
  • Excellent professional courtesy and manner with all external and internal contacts
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Willingness to grow in understanding of the Lasallian mission and heritage
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate of completion of Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant Program
  • Current BLS/CPR Certification required
  • First Aide certification required
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with Geriatric population
  • Experience with rehabilitation methods and goals
  • Previous acute care experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to walk, sit, stand, kneel
  • Ability to transfer and turn patient weighing up to 200 pounds
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids and other infectious agents
