We are looking for an experienced Chief Medical Officer to manage the clinical functions for Physicians, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners. This role will provide clinical oversight to the site medical directors and provides clinical expertise to promote the delivery of high-quality medical care.

Responsibilities include but are limited to:

  • Responsible for the management, oversight, and adherence to federal, state, correctional health care standards and institutional regulations and guidelines in the provision of medical care for the facilities contracted by MEDIKO.
  • Mentor, supervise and assist in guiding all site clinical providers (Physicians, ARNPs, PAs) with daily site operations maintaining daily contact through conference calls, periodic on-site visits, chart reviews, and site Peer Reviews Development of chronic care guidelines for MEDIKO providers
  • Conduct on-site visits, as agreed with CEO, to assist in new-site transitions, training on-site providers, address any site needs, etc.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled conference calls/meetings with all providers to address routine or urgent health care related topics, provide training, etc.
  • Perform Utilization Management (UM) reviews and approvals for all UM requests of MEDIKO, including approval of off-site referrals and appointments, non-formulary pharmaceutical requests, etc.
  • Creation of an efficient & effective UM process through collaborative work with the Billing Director and the Director of Quality Assurance
  • Assist with the implantation and review of corporate policies and procedures, CQI program, UM program, risk management program, update of clinical guidelines, pharmaceutical formulary, treatment protocols and review of EMR clinical forms.
  • Complete, process and/or review Mortality Reviews and Sentinel Reports, as needed
  • Mentor & assist Corporate Staff, including Regional Managers and the Director of Quality Assurance, when guidance is needed related to any individual or corporate wide initiatives related to their position
  • Review and approve pharmacy (in collaboration with MEDIKO pharmacy consultant), laboratory and other clinical expenditures and invoices to identify any matters or concerns that need further investigation, ensure providers are adhering to the formulary that has been approved by MEDIKO, and provide any operational or clinical improvements

Position Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Experience as a Medical Director/Officer required
  • Medical school graduate required
  • Current, unrestricted licensure as a Physician required
  • Current DEA number required
  • Current CPR Certification required
  • Correctional facility experience highly desirable
  • Experience in Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine or Public Health (Board Certification) preferred
  • Travel required
  • Thorough background check, security clearance and drug screening
