General Statement of Duties: Perform educational work in teaching a specific group of preschool children in a child development facility. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Lead Teacher and is evaluated through conferences and observations.

Prepare and carry out daily indoor and outdoor education activities.Assign and supervise the activities of the assistant(s) and volunteers.

Maintain adequate supplies and see that equipment is kept in good condition.

Discuss with parent(s) individual child’s progress, and plan objectives to meet their needs.

Attend and participate in general staff meetings and staff development conferences.

Working knowledge of good health practices.

Considerable knowledge of child growth and development and planning programs to appropriately meet the physical, intellectual, social and emotional needs of children according to their ages and stages of development.

Ability to establish rapport with children and their parents in order to obtain information concerning needs of individual children.

Ability to conduct comprehensive screenings and assessments and analyze and develop behavioral objectives.

Ability to develop an individual educational plan for each child in the group and to carry out activities in the educational environment that will help each child reach their individual goals.

Ability to coordinate and carry out an ongoing program of education with parents that will increase their knowledge of child development and strengthen their roles as the primary educator of their children.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with program personnel as well as those in community agencies.

Perform related work as assigned.

Required Experience and Training: Minimum Requirements: At least an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education, or equivalent coursework. Minimum of two years working with children. Administrative skills and the ability to work with other staff members and institutions is a must. Preferred Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or equivalent coursework with 3-5 years child care experience; Head Start experience is a plus. Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver License. Ability to pass sex offender registry check, State and Federal Criminal Records Background Check, and child abuse & neglect State registry.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour
