Chimney Technician and Dryer Vent Apprentice

Our team is growing. Women - owned, women - staffed, we are looking for chimney technician and dryer vent apprentices who have a strong enough ethic to work hard and with detail and a strong enough mind and ambition to prioritize study for and take certification tests online while being field trained in the standards and best practices of the industry. We provide the study materials and pay for the test. Raises come after certification tests.

Candidates will ideally have a working knowledge of cordless, corded and hand tools (esp. masonry and demolition) as well as OSHA ladder and PPE usage. Metal fabrication, masonry, plumbing, electrical, sales and educational experience would be preferable.

Knowledge of combustion principles, the behavior of gas in conduits, houses as systems and conceptual framework of how 'draft' is a function of these and other factors would be highly desirable.

Assist in the inspection and evaluation of wood burning appliances and dryer vents. Candidate must be committed and self-motivated to learning, training and testing to succeed as a Certified Chimney Technician as outlined by the Chimney Safety Institute of America. Beginning pay is current Santa Fe Living Wage. Additional skills and experience as listed above will start at a higher rate. The faster you can demonstrate these qualities, the faster the pay raises come.

Candidate must have valid driver’s license and pass background check. Candidate will be able to read and write in English with proficiency, calculate linear measurements, and perform mathematical functions in decimals and fractions. Must be able to use most hand tools, some power tools, as well as safely handle and transport ladders, vacuums and other implements during the course of service. Must be able to lift 50 lbs over-head, climb ladders and maneuver flat and pitched roofs.

Work environment is dirty and in close spaces at times. Proper safety covering and ventilation gear will be provided by the company. Previous experience with construction, plumbing, metal fabrication, or masonry preferred.

Marc Black, co-owner and chief technician, was thoroughly trained by two career chimney sweeps in Northern New Mexico and is certified both in Chimney and Venting and Dryer Vent service through the Chimney Safety Institute of America. Knowledgeable in the unique and diverse home wood burning experiences of New Mexico, ABC & DE provides cleaning, repairs, modernization and installations, parts, sales, and accessories. Appliances serviced include Dryer Exhaust, Woodstoves, Fireplaces, and Inserts.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $12.10 - $14.00 per hour
