Under immediate supervision, performs common unskilled laboring work requiring physical strength aboard the vessels and facilities of the Staten Island Ferry.

EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL TASKS:
Moves, lifts and carries items of various weights and sizes. May be required to operate motor vehicles in connection with the performance of duties. Assists with relocation of materials and equipment as directed. Maintains work site premises to ensure that safety and comfort standards are met. May assist in minor repairs and related work; performs related duties.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. There are no formal education or experience requirements for this position.
2. There are certain medical and physical requirements.
License Requirements
Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York.

Preferred Skills

Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) valid in the State of New York preferred. There may be certain age requirements to obtain this license. Employees must maintain the Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) during their employment.

DRUG TESTING REQUIREMENT: Candidates must pass a drug screening to be appointed. City Laborer are subject to random drug and alcohol testing during their employment.

TWIC REQUIREMENT: Once selected for employment at the Staten Island Ferry, federal regulations require that the applicant must either undergo a federal background check as part of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program or already possess a TWIC. VACCINE REQUIREMENT: Effective August 2, 2021, in accordance with Executive Order 75, all persons newly hired for employment by any City agency must provide proof of having received at least one dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine prior to beginning their employment, except for those who obtain an exception due to medical or religious reasons through the reasonable accommodation process.
