Title: Clinical Laboratory Tech (MT, MLS, MLT)

Position: Part-time, hours vary, working 4-8 hours most weeks and working additional hours to provide vacation coverage, must be available between the hours of 7:30 am and 10:00 pm, non-exempt (hourly).


Compensation: See wage range above. Placement within the wage range is determined by the candidates relevant experience.


Bonus: Employees are eligible annually to participate in discretionary bonus programs, as determined by FCN, which include the Years-of-Service bonus program, the Quality Performance bonus program and the Performance Recognition bonus program.


Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Laboratory Services Manager, performs test analysis on patient specimens including blood, urine, culture samples and other body fluids. Performs test analysis on quality control samples, proficiency samples and performs equipment maintenance. Performs all duties in a manner that promotes and supports the Core Values of the Family Care Network.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Evaluates integrity of specimen, follows up on unacceptable specimens, and performs requested testing, follow-up studies, dilutions, calculation and organism work-up as necessary.

  • Reviews monthly quality control data including daily QC, peer group analysis and proficiency testing.

  • Completes work documents and the communicating of criticals and stats according to dept. guidelines.

  • Performs and evaluates analysis of quality control, proficiency specimens and patient specimens.

  • Resolves issues with instrumentation using resources at hand and/or calling the appropriate hotline in a timely manner.

  • Consistently meets expected turnaround times.

  • Consistently leaves work area clean and organized.

  • Participates in evaluating laboratory competency.

  • Reviews batches of patient tests and identifies the issues to be addressed.

  • Correlates laboratory results with pathologic and physiologic states to determine whether follow up should be done to confirm aberrant results.

  • Communicates with physicians, APPs, managers, clinical staff and processors.

  • Maintains confidentiality of records or medical center information at all times.

  • Consistently meets quality standards and compliance with FCN standards and within appropriate scope of practice.

  • Seeks assistance as needed and asks questions in a timely manner and to appropriate staff.

  • Ensures timely renewal of certification.

  • Performs delegated functions using established procedures, policies, guidelines, and standards per FCN standards and Washington State Dept. of Health scope of practice guidelines.

  • Adheres to assigned work schedule (attendance and punctuality).

  • Additional duties as assigned.

An employee accrues PTO at a rate based upon the number of months of service at FCN. A new full-time employee generally accrues 18 days per year. EIB accrues based upon the number of paid hours excluding overtime, with a full-time employee accruing a maximum of 48 hours per year. Benefit eligibility is determined based on the full or part-time status of the position. Employees who are ineligible for FCNs PTO/EIB programs accrue Paid Sick Leave per Washington State law.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree Medical Technology or related science.
  • ASCP or equivalently licensed as a Medical Technologist preferred

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to: climb stairs; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch. Employee is regularly required to: stand; walk and sit for long periods of time; use hand to finger coordination, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, the ability to adjust and focus and discern colors.


Immunization Requirements:

All employees at Family Care Network (FCN) are expected to meet and maintain required immunizations as a contingency of employment. The immunization requirements are as follows: Influenza (annually), Tdap (after the age of 19), MMR, Varicella or a verified history of chicken pox disease, Two-step TST or IGRA (within the last 12 months), COVID-19 vaccine completed series and any additional immunizations determined necessary for the protection of staff and patients. Hepatitis B is also required for employees in positions with a high risk of blood borne pathogen exposure, which includes the following: Providers, RNs, LPNs, MA-Cs, PSRs at all Urgent Care Locations, and all-laboratory staff. The Hepatitis B vaccine is strongly recommended for all other employees. FCN will cover the cost of required immunizations for any FCN employee. All employee immunizations will be administered by FCN staff except for the COVID-19 vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine can be administered at a participating pharmacy or other healthcare location. Note: A medical or religious vaccine exemption/reasonable accommodation will be considered by submitting a FCN Exemption form for review and evaluation by the Chief Medical Officer.
