JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Converting Utility

REPORTS TO: Converting Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Technical COST CENTER: 6231

# POSITIONS REPORTING TO INCUMBENT IN THIS JOB: 0

I. POSITION OBJECTIVE

Assist the workstation operator in producing a good quality product safely and efficiently; by conducting thorough quality checks along with stacking, packaging, trimming and welding product according to standard and/or customer requirements.

II. QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Be available for overtime.
  • Complete basic math such as adding, dividing, subtracting, percentages, etc.
  • Train on different machinery and different lines as needed.
  • Must be able to read a ruler to 1/16”
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.

III. TRAINING

Training will include:

  • Familiarization with Converting Department equipment and set ups.
  • Production machine capabilities.
  • Procedures for Production machinery and safe job practices.
  • Proper procedures for quality inspection and verification.
  • Corporate training including, but not limited to:
  • (MTP, OSHA required, TPM, etc.)

IV. AUTHORITY/DECISION MAKING

The Utility employee has the authority to assist operators in the setup of machines. The (laminate assigned) utility worker has the authority to set up laminate material, change rolls and make knife adjustments. The (slitter assigned) utility worker has the authority to set up blades for product slitting requirements. The (Die Cutter) utility worker has the authority to make pressure adjustments on the machines.

All utility workers conduct material inspections and have the authority to reject non-conforming parts.

He/she also has the duty & responsibility to report unsafe practices.

V. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

A. JOB TASKS & DUTIES

  • Ensure that the workplace is safe, professional, and clean by upholding company “THM” practices [i.e. 5S, OCS, Safety, Recycle] established plant wide.

Examples include, but are not limited to, emptying the trash, sweeping floors and mezzanine areas, etc.

  • Clean, inspect, and stack the product according to standard or customer requirements.

Examples include, but are not limited to, cleaning the work area, checking product dimensions, checking die cut quality, cleaning die cut holes, etc.

  • Assures validation and compliance of product requirements by performing and documenting quality checks on production materials at set intervals. Fill out all paperwork neatly and accurately. (i.e. quality check and production tickets).
  • Wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Assist the operator in the upkeep of the machine and assist in set ups for production runs.

Examples include, but are not limited to adjusting knives, conducting product dimension checks, visually monitor and observe for any machining safety issues, etc.

  • Assist fellow coworkers as needed to maintain levels of production.
  • Package materials according to Coroplast Standards of packaging.
  • Hand trim laminate.
  • Weld boxes.
  • Sort material as needed.
  • Install and uninstall dies on die cutter workstations.
  • Notify operator, lead, or supervisor of any issues or defects.
  • Assist with periodic inventory sessions as needed.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

B. MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, ELECTRONIC DEVICES & SOFTWARE

  • Slitter machines, die cutter machines and laminators.
  • Light Maintenance tools
  • Sonic Welders
  • Hand Welders
  • Knives (utility and trim knives)
  • Light Measuring Devices (tape measures etc.)

C. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION

  • Climbing, ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Stooping, bending body downward and forward by bending spine and waist.

Example: Changing paper in printer, copier machine.

3. Kneeling, bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

4. Crouching, bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

5. Reaching, extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Example: Giving signals, reaching for material or handle on item.

6. Standing, particularly for sustained periods of time.

Example: Making copies, giving presentations, directing traffic.

7. Pushing, using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

8. Pulling, using upper extremities to exert force in order to drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

9. Lifting, raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.

DEGREE OF LIFTING: 26-50 LBS.

10. Fingering, picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm as in handling.

11. Grasping, applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.

12. Feeling, perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

13. Talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; via face to face or telephone.

14. Repetitive motions, substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Example: Filing, sorting mail, starting ignition of machinery.

D. VISUAL ACTIVITY REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION

  • Machine operation, inspection, close assembly, clerical and administrative duties.

Example: Preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, transcription, data entry, CRT exposure, extensive reading, visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, using measurement devices or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

2. Position requires individual to differentiate colors, depth and perception.

E. WORK ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS SUBJECTED TO IN THIS POSITION

1. Inside environmental conditions protected from weather conditions, not necessarily temperature conditions.

2. Subject to hazards such as moving machinery, electrical currents, falling debris, exposure to chemicals, gases, high heat or explosives.

Pay: $12.00 per hour
