The Friends of Churchville Nature Center are seeking a detail oriented and focused volunteer coordinator to be responsible for our database of volunteers and volunteer opportunities. The volunteer responsibilities include recruiting and training new volunteers, keeping a database of volunteer information and skills, matching volunteers to opportunities that suit their skills, keeping volunteers informed, and conveying the organizations mission and purpose to the public.

Hours – 24 a week, which includes every other weekend

Salary – $21,216.00 annual

Job Responsibilities & Duties:

  • The main role of a Volunteer Coordinator is to ensure our organization has enough volunteer to fulfill its mission and goals.
  • Develop and implement an aggressive volunteer recruitment program, utilizing various marketing techniques such as outreach programs, media, job fairs, community events and emails.
  • Interview qualified volunteers, collecting information, availability, and skills. Maintaining an up-to date database. We use an online DonorView volunteer management program.
  • Embellish and improve our comprehensive training programs and guidelines for volunteers.
  • Work with appropriate management staff to meet their volunteer needs for activities and projects which include programs, ground maintenance, visitor center, special events etc.
  • Organize Park cleanup and invasive species removal projects, recruiting volunteers to keep them engaged.
  • Be present during all large volunteer events. Supervision of volunteer efforts is delegated to the team in the area where the volunteers are assigned.
  • Prepare volunteer displays and write volunteer articles for the Nature Center Newsletter.
  • Provide for and develop volunteer recognition activities, awards and other creative ways of recognizing volunteers
  • Prepare and file periodic reports on volunteer hours and projects
  • Assist other staff in the daily functions of the center as needed
  • Supervise and train visitor center’s front desk volunteers. Visitor aide’s, as we call them, role is to greet visitors, sell items in our retail shop, answer questions, answer our phones, transfer calls and overall represent the center as the first people that visitors encounter when they enter building. Responsibility of the front desk management is a vital responsibility of the volunteer coordinator position.

  • Motivation to develop a working knowledge of the center’s, Point of Sale system (Quickbooks POS), Microsoft Office, and Donorview
  • Ability to use social media as a marketing tool

The Friends of Churchville Nature Center is a non-profit organization which works in cooperation with the Churchville Nature Center, a facility of the Bucks County Department of Parks and Recreation, to promote their mission. Although County of Bucks provides two staff (Director/Assistant Director) and resources for the facility, the friends help to provide resources for additional staff, educational programs, family events, as well as operates a native butterfly house and 1500’s era Lenape Village at the center. The friends also help to maintain the preserve itself, wildlife gardens and its trails, providing a place for our community to connect with nature. The funds for the friends are raised primarily through membership, program fees and special events.

Note: Although the Friends of Churchville Nature Center staff are not county employees, they are supervised by the two county staff in cooperation with the Friends Board of Directors.
