UVU’s University Marketing and Communications is an award-winning multidisciplinary marketing team serving the UVU community. By weaving together design, technology, and creativity, we deliver strategic marketing campaigns and materials that create a real impact within the university and the greater Utah community. We are currently looking for a copywriter to join our team.

What you’ll be doing

  • The Copywriter and Editor is a versatile writer and editor, whatever the task or medium, with digital and print content competency.
  • Writes impeccable copy for a variety of platforms, ranging from web and social media to press releases and news articles.
  • Leads in creating, producing, managing, and consulting on written content for the university’s Marketing and Communications department and collaborates with the creative services team.
  • Crafts impactful messaging that resonates with students, staff, and local communities.
  • Edits written copy for accuracy, clarity, consistency, grammar, punctuation, style, and other considerations.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • (60%) Writes various types of content, including infographic outlines, ad copy, website copy, video scripts, social media copy, press releases, narrative-style news articles, SEO-focused copy, and copy for a variety of other print and digital platforms. Collaborates with university departments, designers, and project managers to conceptualize and write campaign copy. Assists with content for web and social media channels, the calendar website, and the internal campus messaging platform as needed.
  • (30%) Proofreads and edits copy for a variety of communication platforms with strong attention to detail.
  • (10%) Performs other job-related duties as assigned, including but not limited to attending coordination meetings and implementing and supporting university communication efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree, one year of professional writing experience OR a combination of relevant education and experience totaling five years.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree, plus two to three years of content writing experience (preferably in the marketing space or at a marketing agency) OR a combination of relevant education and experience totaling six to seven years.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
  • Fluent knowledge of the English language.
  • Knowledge of digital content production (HTML/CSS?principles).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
  • Knowledge of higher education dynamic a plus.
  • Impeccable and versatile writing skills.
  • Excellent copy-editing skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Strong background in web and?SEO-focused copy
  • Experience writing creative content campaign copy.

  • Write for a variety of platforms.
  • Collaborate with other teams and university departments to produce impactful content. Adapt voice and tone to different audiences.
  • Use electronic content-management tools.
  • Interview sources for content.
  • Produce copy quickly and write under deadline constraints. Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
