Overview
This full-time role will serve as the Manager for HMH’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team. This role will focus on helping to execute the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts including employee volunteerism, nonprofit partnerships, HMH’s Matching Gifts Program, and sustainability activities.

Working with the CSR Director and the Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs, the Manager will provide critical operational and strategic support for the CSR team. One key responsibility will include the management and oversight of HMH’s 9 Cares Councils (formerly known as Community Investment Councils), which are comprised of employees who are passionate about community service. In this capacity, the Manager will partner with HMH employees across the country and the globe, as Cares Councils align with HMH’s major office and distribution centers across the U.S. and Ireland, and also include a Remote Cares Council for fully homebased employees.

The Manager will aim to maximize employee engagement year-round volunteerism – organizing both in-person and virtual opportunities, and play a key role in the planning and execution of HMH’s annual companywide Volunteer Week.

The Manager will also partner with colleagues across the business to expand HMH’s sustainability program. Sustainability efforts that the Manger will oversee include exploring the launch of an “HMH Green Team” and tracking and reporting on data related to sustainability metrics, including those outlined in HMH’s paper policy.

Responsibilities
Partner with the CSR Director to maintain all of HMH’s Corporate Social Responsibility programs company-wide
Grow HMH’s signature employee volunteerism program, HMH Classroom Corps –which connects HMH employees to students and teachers through in-school and virtual service opportunities
Review employee matching gift requests on a daily basis – determine eligibility and conduct employee/donor follow up as needed
Manage and support HMH’s 9 Cares Councils – employee run volunteer teams – assisting with volunteer projects and providing ongoing guidance
Lead annual training of Cares Council members, including onboarding new members, facilitating role trainings, maintaining their budgets and providing support as needed
Together with the CSR Director, plan and execute HMH’s global annual Volunteer Week
Partner with colleagues from all Lines of Business across HMH to expand HMH’s sustainability efforts and other key annual Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives
Manage HMH Cares, the companywide giving and volunteering platform and conduct regular reporting on CSR programs and employee engagement
Assist with the reporting, writing and design of HMH’s annual Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report

Job Requirements
Demonstrated ability to work independently
Demonstrated ability to prioritize responsibilities while working on multiple projects simultaneously
Strong writing and research skills
Strong communications skills
Ability to interact comfortably with wide array of internal and external stakeholders at a variety of seniority levels
Enthusiasm for Corporate Social Responsibility and making an impact in local communities
Strong budget and reporting skills required
Significant comfort with Excel (including functions required to manage very large spreadsheets – e.g., vlookup, equations, if statements, etc.)
Very strong attention to detail
Comfortable structuring, executing and managing processes
Ability to plan and lead volunteer projects, engagement campaigns and special events
Experience in both the non- and for-profit sectors a plus
Volunteer management or committee/council management or experience also helpful

Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in relevant field
5+ years of professional work experience, with at least 2 years in Corporate Social Responsibility, communications, employee engagement, or a related field
Experience in CSR-related role, preferably including prior work in nonprofit field, corporate affairs, human resources, or relevant experience preferred
