THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Mail Inspector for the Department of Corrections, you will be responsible for the proper handling of incoming and outgoing mail. Job duties include, but are not limited to. opening and examining inmate letters and packages to prevent the transmission of contraband material; coordinating the delivery of items with various institutional entities (libraries, chapels, etc.); and delivering publications, magazines, and packages to the state correctional facility.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $37,144.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of clerical experience, including one year in the field of corrections; or
  • Any combination of experience and/or training which provides the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.
Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
  • A conditional offer of employment will require submission of criminal history reports.
  • You must pass a background investigation.
