General Description

The Cost Accountant/Admin performs professional level accounting work in the maintenance and review of fiscal records. The position requires considerable knowledge of basic accounting principles and accounting functions. The individual is responsible for the general ledger, job cost, and accounts payable. Additional responsibilities include performing monthly closings, maintenance of accounting files, and preparation/organization of various financial forms, reports, financial analysis, etc. This individual may be asked to assist with ad-hoc projects and general office support tasks when necessary. These responsibilities and tasks will be coordinated with and supervised by the Senior Management.

Key Duties

  • Assist with daily project daily cost reports
  • Perform daily and month project integrations using SAP and HCSS Heavy Job
  • Assist in verifying labor hours, timesheets and integration by project staff
  • Assist with monthly accruals during the month-end close
  • Assist with yearly closeouts
  • Assist with quarterly budgets and review with senior management
  • Support field and project engineers as needed for cost and financial related subjects
  • Support accounting and project team with document/invoice/receipt tracking
  • Other duties as assigned and requested

Qualification Requirements

  • Education and Experience. This position typically is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as a Cost Administrator.
    • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
    • 2+ years accounting experience is preferred
    • Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with Project Managers, Senior Management, and fellow employees.
    • Excellent computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook is required.
    • Ability to access and accurately input information using SAP and HCSS Heavy Job.
    • Must have considerable knowledge with basic accounting principles (i.e. journal entries, debits, credits, etc.) and accounting functions. Job cost and construction experience will be key for this position.
    • Ability to work independently and complete duties and projects with little direct supervision.
    • Ability to accurately work under pressure in meeting deadlines.
    • Must have excellent organization skills.
  • Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Cost Administrator to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
    • Regularly required to sit and/or stand during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day.
    • Employee is occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
    • Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 25 pounds and carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Job Cost Administrator encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    • Work is performed predominately indoors.
