The Hanover Theatre Conservatory provides performance opportunities, classes, and individual instruction in theatre, dance, and technical theatre and design to more than 500 young people and adults from across central Massachusetts each year. The Conservatory’s engagement initiatives reach 16,000 students in the community each year through student matinees and school-based programming. Established in 2017, the Conservatory cultivates individual attention, ignites creativity and inspires confidence through arts education led by outstanding teaching artists. The state-of-the-art facility includes classrooms, rehearsal and teaching studios, and tech and costume labs for advanced education in stage craft and design. In addition to the permanent faculty, Conservatory students have access to workshops and master classes with guest artists from national touring productions. The Conservatory offers need-based scholarships to ensure access to arts education regardless of financial means. Many Conservatory students have continued their pursuit of the arts at institutions such as Emerson College, Boston University, NYU, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Berklee College of Music, Hofstra, Hartt School at the University of Hartford, Marymount Manhattan College, Syracuse University and more.

Costume Designer for "The Seagull"

The Hanover Theatre Conservatory’s production of "The Seagull" is looking for a Costume Designer. The Seagull is being performed by our Youth Acting Company, a group of 16 wonderfully talented 14 -19-year-olds. For this production, we are seeking someone who can design the costumes, execute the designs, run the show, and then strike. Dates to Note: Rehearsals begin on or around January 2nd, Tech and Performances are Sunday, February 19th – Sunday, February 26th. The venue for this production is the Brick Box.

Salary: $1,000 for ~50 Hours of work

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Creatively collaborate with the Director
  • Attend weekly Production Meetings (30 minutes via Zoom)
  • Measure Students for Costumes and attend fittings
  • Submit design sketches/inspiration/finals to the Production Manager

SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS:

The employee must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate that they can perform the above responsibilities and essential functions to a high level of competency, with or without reasonable accommodation.

1. Previous experience with costume design and patterns

2. Excellent sewing skills

3. Excellent organizational and communication skills

4. Ability to manage and work within a budget

5. Proven self-starter and desire to take initiative

6. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities

7. Confident personality with the motivation to achieve results

8. Punctual and dependable

9. Reliable transportation to Worcester, MA

10. Ability to work evening and weekend hours as required

11. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail

12. Creative problem solving

Job Type: Contract

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability

Experience:

  • sewing: 1 year (Preferred)
