ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

Arvada West High School (AWHS) is a community-driven, achievement-oriented high school committed to maximizing student potential; we prepare all students to think critically and interact responsibly in a changing world. We serve nearly 1800 students in grades 9-12 and offer a variety of programming to meet the needs and interests of all Arvada West students. Our campus is 1:World; each student is issued a Chromebook to ensure equal access to the technology needed to keep learning relevant to the demands of today's workplace. We offer more than 24 AP courses, including AP Seminar and Capstone. Students can choose from a variety of workforce-ready electives such as Energy Industry Fundamentals, Cyber Cats, Teacher Cadet, and Advanced Water Studies. We encourage our teachers to pursue CTE credentials with our career preparation focus. Our staff and students take pride in our inclusive culture; Special Education students are served via co-teaching practices and we offer an innovative and inclusive program for students with significant needs. AWHS offers 20 Varsity level sports with approximately 900 students participating. Our Music and Theatre department, with an overall participation of more than 650 students, is thriving and highly regarded locally and nationally. Thirty-one percent of our students are choice enrolled and we embrace diversity with 24% minority students and 25% free or reduced lunch eligible students. ABOUT THE JOB


SUMMARY

Promote the social emotional wellness of students and staff through programming that supports a positive culture and climate, coordinating universal social emotional instruction, and providing evidence-based targeted supports. Support students across the continuum with RTI and MTSS. This support may include, but is not limited to, one-on-one support, group work, classroom and teacher support, and collaborative problem solving with both prevention and intervention models. Oversee transitional programs for incoming high school students and provide academic and social emotional support to help improve engagement and success. Candidates will need to have an excellent working knowledge of 504 law and process.

**Annual salary noted above is based on an 8 hour day and full days worked calendar. Any position that is less than a full FTE/8 hours per day or late start will be prorated accordingly.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Required:
  • Current School Counselor endorsement on a valid Colorado License.

  • Demonstrated skills and abilities to ensure the success of all students.

  • Experience working with students individually or in integrated settings such as the regular classroom, team meetings, and in cooperation with classroom teachers.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of child abuse, neglect, and child protection procedures, as well as ALP, 504, SST, and Special Education Referral process.

  • Effective communicator, demonstrated skills in team building, conflict resolution, decision making, time management, safe school planning, and facilitation of psycho-educational counseling groups

  • Knowledge and experience with academic advising, registration and scheduling.

  • Experience and willingness to implement programs related to the career and academic domains of the Jeffco Counseling Comprehensive Guidance Program.

  • Excellent communication skills in order to facilitate communication with all members of the community, special ed. team members, classroom teachers, students, parents and administrators.

  • Demonstrated ability in providing differentiation, interventions and extensions for students.

  • Effective collaboration with teammates.

  • Demonstrated commitment to team work and systemic programs.
