Job Description
The Counselor will provide personal, career and educational counseling to prospective and current students in one-on-one and or group settings. Assist in the success and retention of students by providing mental wellness programming and supporting students through crisis intervention and referrals to community resources. The Counselor will support the college’s strategic goals through, service on college committees, and collaboration opportunities with other divisions.

Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in counseling or counseling psychology.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing direct services to students in the areas of personal, career, and educational counseling in an educational setting.


  • Previous experience teaching Career Development/Exploration and/or first year experience courses.

  • Experience with mental wellness counseling services and programming in areas such as violence prevention, depression, grief, living successfully with a mental illness, etc.

  • Proven ability to collaborate with professionals across multiple areas (local government agencies, mental health centers, and school districts, etc.) to deliver mental health curricula and programs.

  • Demonstrated commitment and success working in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.

  • Course work or experience interpreting Strong and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assessment or other career assessments.

Other Requirements
In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.

Full-time faculty salaries are based on an evaluation of education and related experience after a job offer has been accepted and currently range from $48,735-$85,892. Full-time faculty work 171 days during a nine-month academic year and receive excellent benefits including health insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, short and long-term disability, paid personal and sick leave, retirement savings plans, tuition waiver for employees and dependents, professional development funds, along with many optional benefit programs.
