The First Judicial District is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time highly organized and detailed oriented Temporary Court Operations Clerk to join the Dakota County Court Administration team in Hastings, MN.

This position will focus on hosting zoom court hearings, processing pre-hearing exhibits, reviewing reports, and assisting with general office needs including copy requests, answering phones and assisting customers at the front counter. This temporary position is expected to last until June 30, 2024.

The primary work location for this position is in the Probate/Family Division of the Dakota County Judicial Center in Hastings, MN 55033. Standard hours of work are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Reimbursable travel to and work at other Dakota County Court facilities may be required, including the Dakota County Northern Service Center in West St. Paul, MN 55118 and the Dakota County Western Service Center, Apple Valley, MN 55124.

Example of Duties

The following are examples of major job duties expected for this position:

  • Performs routine and/or limited scope court operations work, which may include scanning and/or imaging documents, data entry, retrieving and filing case files and documents, and/or responding to requests for information.
  • Receives and responds to questions and requests for information from the general public, attorneys, and court employees; provides requested information in accordance with applicable policies, laws, and procedures; issues receipts for payment of court fees, fines, bail, and restitution; checks people in for court; assists public in filling out various applications and forms; prepares certified and plain copies of court records upon request.
  • May perform the duties and an Electronic Recording Equipment Operator (EREO) including setting up and testing recording equipment, recording and monitoring court proceedings, creating courtroom log as necessary, backing up recordings in compliance with applicable policies and procedures, and shutting down recording equipment once recording has been completed.
  • Attends and participates in division/team meetings and trainings; maintains knowledge of court policies, processes, and procedures.
  • May provide assistance to others in performing courtroom operation duties, including
    clerking hearings, scheduling hearings, working calendars, and assisting staff with in- court updating

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate from an approved high school/GED or vocational school and relevant job experience. This level would be obtained through six months of general clerical experience.

  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the organization, operation, function, and jurisdiction of the court.
  • Knowledge of customer service practices and techniques.
  • Skill in the operation of a personal computer and the ability to learn court automated information systems.
  • Ability to learn, interpret, and apply rules, statutes, laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to accurately enter data and update records and the ability to maintain an accurate record filing system.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters and files appropriately and in compliance with all applicable court rules, policies, and statutes.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to adapt to change and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic.

This is a Teamsters CAT represented position and is posted for both internal and external application. The expected starting salary range for external candidates is $16.40 - $21.27 per hour ($34,243.20 - $44,411.76 annually) based on qualifications. The full salary range for this position is $16.40 - $26.14 per hour ($34,243.20 - $54,580.32 annually). This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for State of MN employee benefits.
