Essential Attributes:

Essential Tasks:
    • This position requires some independent judgment, as well as technical skill. Duties include performing clerical work requiring application of various work methods and procedures which may be complex.
    • Provide accurate and professional service to the courts, general public and other government agencies by maintaining an accurate record of court orders, as stated by the Judge in the courtroom proceedings as well as providing information regarding civil appeals.
    • Thorough knowledge and experience in attending county court small claims pre-trial hearings, trials before the court, and case management conferences by appearing either in person or virtually.
    • Ability to check in Jurors prior to court and attend Civil Jury Trials. This position requires the ability to learn the responsibilities and technical aspects of conducting the required tasks to assist with Jury trials.
    • Conduct the necessary preparations before court to ensure the docket is current and notate any significant information that could be pertinent to the case.
    • Attend court hearings (which may require staying after hours) and maintain accurate records of court rulings by documenting the information to the Court Memo, accepting evidence or I.D. as directed by the Court and preparing/processing Orders when required. This includes the ability to attend virtual hearings as needed.
    • Always maintain professionalism in the courtroom and adhere to the dress code policies that have been put in place.
    • Process post court which includes scanning/indexing pleadings, preparing final orders, preparing evidence lists, rescheduling court dates and any other ministerial duties of the Clerk as directed by the Order of the Court.
    • Being able to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
    • Thorough knowledge of appeal procedures and timelines involved in preparing/processing pertinent documents including the distinction between “final” and “nonfinal” appeals.
    • Ability to electronically transmit records in (PDF) format to the appropriate court(s) pursuant to the appellate rules of procedure.
    • Perform data entry regarding new cases that are filed by electronic filings and assist with indexing documents.
    • Thorough knowledge of researching cases and reporting unclaimed property that complies with all the requirements pursuant to Florida Statutes, created in accordance with the Department’s prescribed format and submitted through the Department’s Holder Reporting Online System.
    • Perform other related work as required.

Minimum Skills/Qualifications:
    • Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma.
    • Ability to identify & interpret pleadings that are filed which require additional processes.
    • Capability of making good sound judgment decisions.
    • Proficient in assisting internal/external customers by providing accurate information.
    • Ability to effectively correspond to internal/external customers in writing/emails using proper pronunciation.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • Ability to communicate well and listen carefully to people from varied backgrounds.
    • Ability to research resource materials.
    • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage work to meet necessary time requirements and work load.
    • Ability to accurately type 35 WPM.
    • Ability to maintain attention to detail and to remain calm in an anxious, intense environment.
    • Ability to operate a PC and/or mainframe based systems.
    • Proficient use of Word and the ability to learn industry based software.
    • Ability to cover work of other employees to ensure that deadlines are met.
    • Ability to remain flexible as conditions change and continue effective performance in the face of additional challenges.
    • Ability to make quick, objective decisions.
    • Knowledge of Florida Statutes, Civil Rules of Procedures and Administrative Orders.
    • This position requires a six-month training period for new employees.
    • Occasional overtime may be required.
    • External candidates will be subject to an NCIC background check, drug screen and physical exam.
