Crew Lead (50% - 75% of time)

Crew leads will manage Field Hands (laborers) guiding them in all necessary farm duties. This includes but it not limited to the following: planting seeds, transplanting plants, training plants, removing weeds, harvesting crops, processing crops, washing crops, packing crops, storing crops properly, logging all farm activities, assisting with training, facility cleaning, and so forth. Crew leads are to demonstrate proper procedures, motivate, help to focus, and guide Field Hands in a hands-on fashion typically working side by side with them. Additionally, Crew Leads are to assist farm management with work planning: thinking ahead of tasks that need to be done and helping to prioritize those tasks. Also, assisting with crop scouting for pest/disease/weed issues and forecasting harvests and communicating that information to farm management is another key role of Crew Leads. Crew Leads will also have other areas of focus that they specialize in as detailed below.

Tours – crew leads should be knowledgeable about the overall farm operation and be able to speak to small groups or individuals while giving guided tours 1-2 hours per week.

Assist with crop planning

Assist with crop harvest forecast

Manage compost program - the ideal candidate must be familiar with and maintain compliance with all State and Federal regulations and guidelines concerning compost production. They must manage the collection, processing and storage of on-site and off-site input materials. They must act as the primary contact person for outside parties in all matters concerning the compost program including DEP, municipalities, trucking companies and sources of waste streams. Additional Requirements: must have a basic understanding of compost production, its theories, methods and practices. Education and/or formal training in composting theory and techniques a plus. Pocono Organics will consider providing additional training for the right candidate.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour
