Mountain and Sea Educational Adventures (MSA) is a non-profit Christian based Environmental Education organization founded in 1997. Our mission is to teach outdoor education in a manner which increases the awareness of the environment, raises the spirit of youth, and builds their confidence. Three program sites are located near the west end of Catalina Island at Whites Landing, Two Harbors & on our ship Enhydra. MSA also has overnight program sites at Lake Arrowhead. We teach science concepts in the midst of God’s creation, fostering growth and building character. MSA encourages staff growth through discipleship training. Basic Job Description
Keep rooms clean and in orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing carpets, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Note: Must be able to pass a background check to work around youth. Bonus for those who pass drug test.
1) Handle lines in docking, departing or anchoring.
2) Serve as Deckhand 3 when vessel is underway (Captain will train on duties)
3) Clean floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
4) Gather and empty trash/hose down trash cans before returning them to the ship.
5) Service, clean, sanitize and supply restrooms.
6) Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
7) Night Watch rotation: Monitor security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created
8) Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
9) Notify managers or Captain concerning the need for major repairs or additions to operating systems.
10) Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
11) Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for meals or events.
12) Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
13) Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
14) Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
15) Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
16) Be available to the Captain for any needs such as docking and anchoring
17) Hours on board can be applied to credit for captain's licensing for 100 ton vessels
