POSITION SUMMARY:

A volunteer will assist Maryville Academy in meeting its’ mission to their clients by providing structure, stability and guidance. Provide support at a Maryville program; or serving as a mentor or tutor to the children in Maryville’s care. Each volunteer reports to and receives his/her assignments from Maryville’s Volunteer Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Follow the directives of the Volunteer Coordinator.
• Perform all assigned duties in a professional, ethical manner.
• Maintain the confidentiality of the children in Maryville’s care.
• Report to supervisor on duty to receive assignments.
• Report any unusual incidents to immediate supervisor.
• Assist childcare workers with the care of children under the age of 6.
  • Play games
  • Help with maintaining good hygiene
  • Help feed the children
• Help with pre-school activities with the children
• Document arrival and departure in sign-in book.
• Assist youth care workers during group time with the youth.
• Help individual youth with homework or activity.
• Give one-on-one attention as needed.
• Maintain ethical standards as always described by Maryville Academy.
• Maintain open communication with shift supervisors, program manager, and other team members involved with the youth.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the youth.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:

• Minimum of 18 years of age.
• Must possess the interest and willingness to share life experiences and talents.
• Complete the volunteer packet.
• Receive on the job training and/or attend training session as appropriate to the complexity and demands of the assignments.

Skills /Knowledge:

• Specific skills and knowledge requirements will be assignment-based.
• Must demonstrate a positive, cooperative and supportive attitude.
• Must possess the ability to interact and communicate professionally with the team members and the youth.

Physical Demands:

May be required to frequently sit, stand, bend, stoop and walk, sometimes for extended periods.

May be required to lift/ move objects weighing in excess of 20 pounds.

Must have visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential functions defined above.

Environment and Scheduling:

• Duties may involve contact with youth who may be threatening, aggressive and/or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
• Must be flexible with scheduling.

HIPAA PRIVACY TRAINING AND SANCTIONS:

All employees, interns and volunteers who have access to health information whose confidentiality is protected by the HIPAA Privacy Rule are required by the Rule to receive training so that they have an understanding and knowledge of the Privacy Rule that corresponds to their job responsibilities and of the group health plan’s policies and procedures that impact on their job duties. Site specific training on requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule and the plan’s health information policies and procedures under the direction of the plan privacy officer may be required for this position based upon site specific requirements. Employees, interns and volunteers who violate the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule will be subject to discipline, up to and including termination.
