POSITION SUMMARY:

The operations sales associate must provide excellent customer service. They ensure that the Mercado department is neat, clean, and organized. They restock the shelves when necessary. They ensure the price labels are accurate. They perform cash handling duties and use the AR system (POS internal system).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepares Cash Register and Assigned area to ensure it is ready to accept customers.
  • Records amount of sale on cash register and makes change.
  • Obtains credit authorization on Credit Sales as needed.
  • Is responsible for all the procedures related to Cashiering including full responsibility for monies under his/her control.
  • Updates customer information as required.
  • Inspects merchandise prior to bagging to see that it is in satisfactory condition and verifies sales slip with price tickets on merchandise.
  • Balances cash register on a daily basis.
  • Dusts, cleans and restocks merchandise shelves as assigned.
  • Sets up advertising signs on promotional items as well as any other signage that is required.
  • Does price changes on merchandise as needed.
  • Helps customers by answering any questions on the products in the Mercado area.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education

A Mercado associate must have a High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

The candidate must have a minimum of six months of customer service-related experience.

Language Skills

The candidate must be able to speak and understand English and Spanish at a conversational level. They must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. They must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other associates of the organization.


Computer Skills


The candidate must have basic computer skills and be able to use a computer keyboard.
