This position reviews cases relating to individual income tax, active business and inactive business accounts that may require payment plans, data purification and the possible use of legal remedies. Legal remedies would include issuing tax warrants and executing tax warrants for bank levies and preparation of accounts for garnishments. Research and analyze individual income tax, active business, and inactive business accounts of all tax types, including retailers' sales, retailers' and consumers' compensating use, withholding, retail liquor, liquor enforcement and transient guest. Work with accounts that have been referred to a vender collection agency. A considerable amount of analysis and independent judgement is required. Receives incoming phone calls distributed by the Finesse Cisco Unified Contact Center Express (UCCX) from non-compliant customers. Resolution of cases requires a high degree of verbal and written skills in order to ensure customers remain in compliance once the case is resolved. Reviews cases, prepares and determines the proper approach that will resolve the case in accordance with Legal Case Support and Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR) guidelines.
This position is eligible to be a home-based position but will require a few days in the Topeka office for orientation, equipment pick up, and some initial training. KDOR will provide all equipment, however employee is responsible for home office workstation. Employee will be reimbursed for travel, lodging and food. Candidates working from home must have access to stable high speed internet services with download/upload and latency speeds to support our systems. If candidate prefers to work in the office, this position is based out of the Topeka office. .
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Qualifications: One years of experience in interviewing, investigating or providing technical assistance to clients, customers, or the public, and two years of experience or education in auditing or accounting support work. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Special Requirements: If employee is working remotely, they must have a locked secure location for all equipment and access to stable high speed internet services with download/upload and latency speeds to support our systems.
Preferred Experience: Prefer at least one year of experience creating documents in Word, or Word Perfect and Excel. Ability to communicate factual information and ideas orally and in writing; deal with people in an impartial manner; retain self-control in stressful situations; establish and maintain good working relationships with the public, attorneys and fellow employees. Ability to make determinations based upon tax laws, rulings, precedents and reference materials related to taxation.
Preferred Skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, proofreading, editing, and attention to detail.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: KBI and FBI fingerprint required due to access to Federal Tax Information files in KDOR systems.
