The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Data Analyst. The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Data Analyst to be responsible for extracting justice system and treatment data from multiple databases and collating appropriately for end-user needs. Under the supervision of the Substance Abuse Division Data and Research Director, this role centers around data extraction, cleaning, coding, visualizations, and technical reporting from multiple datasets to further the evaluation research efforts of the UAB Community Justice Programs and Beacon Recovery. Frequent duties include preparing statistical results for reports in tables, charts, dashboards, and narrative formats for multiple programs, various grant requirements, and recidivism reviews. Reporting audience includes internal programs, the Administrative Office of Courts, Department of Corrections, the Jefferson County Commission, and federal agencies. Additional Institutional Review Board reporting duties as needed.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Daily use of statistical and technical skills in the analysis and reporting of data elements, data cleaning and manipulation, quality assurance, visualization, and supporting verification of statistical results.
  • Maintaining an updated skill set in these area as well as engaging in ongoing training is expected.
  • Regular consultation with Family Court and Programs Staff to recommend data collection elements, reporting procedures, and best practices for statistical analyses on various projects.
  • Provide analytical support of various databases and datasets.
  • Regular analysis projects with Beacon Recovery, Family Wellness, and Community Justice Programs data.
  • Programs data queries as needed in such a way as to ensure data quality for analysis.
  • Other responsibilities include monitoring data integrity and the early diagnosis and prompt intervention should any issues detrimental to the collection of quality data arise.
  • General duties to support the project goals including writing up data analysis and findings for manuscripts and evaluations, preparing data for presentations, literature searches to suggest new approaches to analyses or paper ideas for the current data.
  • Collaborates with data programmers and network security administrators to advise relevant design and to ensure the resultant data is in a format that can be readily and accurately analyzed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Strong computer, written and oral communication, interpersonal and organizational skills who can work independently and within a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to include the ability to generate high quality writing and written and oral presentations within the incumbents scope of work and under supervision of the director
  • Must have the ability to work independently towards assigned project goals related to data management and data analysis and the ability to work in a team setting consulting with other team members to achieve project goals

Annual Salary Range: $47,665 – 77,455


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Math, Psychology, Statistics or a related field
  • Two (2) years of related experience required
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
