Definition of Class

  • This an advanced level technical position requiring minimal supervision. This position reports to the onsite IT Manager and Director of Information Technology. Day to day operations require significant independent action, initiative and judgment. General direction and guidance are received from the onsite IT Manger and Department of Public Safety. Duties involve a wide range of technical skills and abilities. The CAD Database Administrator is subject to being on call 24/7/365 in case of emergencies, including holidays.

Nature of Work

  • This position requires the ability to operate a variety of software applications to maintain databases, update data, resolve data errors and to enhance the dependability and accuracy of the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining operation of Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD), Law Enforcement Records Management Systems (LERMS) and other ancillary applications used with the CAD system Maintaining current databases, adding, deleting and updating records to insure efficient and accurate information is available to 9-1-1 Operations and First Responders.
  • Performs desktop and end-user support for CAD and other ancillary applications at the Erie County Department of Public Safety and to Fire, Law Enforcement and Emergency Medical Services
  • Work with vendors to provide onsite and remote support
  • Works closely with Public Safety GIS
  • Produce reports as requested
  • Attend group and/or regional meetings as needed or assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Must be able to work with the relevant computer software and hardware in the Public Safety Industry.
  • Ability to learn Tyler New World CAD, knowledge beneficial.
  • Ability to learn GIS principles, ESRI ArcGIS, knowledge beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to trouble shoot a wide range of issues, from minor user issues to full network or system outages
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Develop and maintain good working relations with county employees, outside local, state and federal agencies, law enforcement agencies, emergency response agencies, and vendors.
  • Work well independently, as well as in a team environment.
  • Work in a multi-task environment; possess organizational and time-management skills in order to meet deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing in a professional business-like manner.
  • Exercise discretion over sensitive and confidential issues related to the department, and database security and information.
  • Strong understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies.
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies on a 24/7/365 basis.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or Technical Degree, or 2 years of Experience in a Progressive IT Environment
  • Must have a Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the field of public safety is preferred
