Job Summary

The Dental Administrator is responsible for leadership and overall management of the Dental Department at Yellowhawk and reports directly to the CEO. All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with the Yellowhawk Mission and Vision statements.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Directly supervises all staff dentists, dental therapists, dental hygienists, and the Dental Administrative Operations Manager (DAOM). The Dental Administrator is responsible for accessing and coaching staff in all aspects of quality improvement.
  • Deliver and ensure that all dental staff deliver quality patient care in a responsible, respectful and caring manner using experience and current industry standards.
  • Supervises department personnel and provides instruction and training. Plans, coordinates, assigns and reviews work. Acts on problems and concerns, and maintains standards. Approves leave, evaluates performance and initiates discharges and disciplinary action. Provides mentoring, supervision, and technical assistance to department staff.
  • As a member of the Management Team (MT), the Administrator will help create and execute Strategic Plans, Annual Work Plans, and any directives ordered by the Health Commission. Additional projects will be as assigned as part of this group.
  • The Administrator?s scope of clinical practice will be requested based on education and experience, which will then be privileged by the CEO and Health Commission.
  • Responsible for ensuring that semi-annual peer reviews and annual performance evaluations are completed for direct reports. The Administrator will also be responsible for proposing, completing, submitting, and presenting a Quality Improvement Project specific to the department semi-annually.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining departmental polices and assuring compliance by all dental staff. The Administrator will also be responsible for accountability and coaching of staff they directly supervise and indirectly for all dental assistants. Maintenance of accreditation and compliance with the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc (AAAHC) will be the primary responsibility of the Dental Administrator.
  • Required to attend and participate in any meetings assigned by the CEO. The Administrator will also be responsible for promoting excellent communication within the department, which will include at minimum a regular monthly all dental staff meeting, safety meeting, and regular communications with staff. They will also assure that the department is following all infection control guidelines and maintains OSHA compliance.
  • Responsible for overall management of outside referrals. They will access all outside referral requests by staff dentists to see if the patient can be treated in the department. If needed treatment is beyond the scope of care of the department, they will be responsible for collaborating with competent specialists that can provide needed treatment to the patient in a timely fashion.
  • Responsible for preparing the annual dental department budget for review and approval and then executing the budget within cost constraints.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources in recruitment of dental staff, participating in interviews, and make recommendations on applicant?s suitability for employment at Yellowhawk.
  • Responsible for managerial oversite to the Dental service programs through planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing dental service activities and strategic initiatives.
  • Responsible to exercise oversite for Dental PRC in accordance with Yellowhawk policies, authorize, obligate and justify dental care funds as needed.
  • Ensure all Dental activity is performed in accordance with proper licensure, regulatory and accreditation standards and requirements.
  • Ensure quality of patient care is monitored, evaluated and appropriate. Corrective actions are to be taken based on findings. Ensures integration of patient education into all phases of treatment.
  • Monitor and evaluate all dental programs and/or services to ensure achievement of system-wide uniform standards of dental clinic practice, quality assurance/management programs, practice guidelines and protocols and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Works closely with tribal programs and other community programs to identify, address, and meet community dental needs. Educate and expand access of primary dental services, especially for the uninsured and low-income, and to provide oral health care to the community.
