Summary:
The Chicago Tribune is seeking a Deputy Photo Editor to join our award-winning photo staff that cover a diverse and dynamic city. Photo editors work closely across all departments in the newsroom to produce visual journalism for all sections and all platforms in a fast-paced, digital-first environment.
What you will do:
Responsibilities include working with reporters and editors to identify and brainstorm photo requests, attend daily and weekly news meetings, share our journalism on our social media accounts to connect with our audience, dispatch photographers to assignments, build online galleries and edit video as needed. Photo editors are encouraged to generate story ideas with strong news value and be innovative in visual communication. This is not a shooting position.
What you will bring:

We seek applicants who have 1-3 years professional experience in a newsroom or news organization and desire growth in a large metropolitan market

Candidates must have solid news judgement and the highest of ethics in journalism

Good caption writing and editing skills are a must

Proficient with Photoshop, Premiere, Photo Mechanic and other photo and video editing software

Knowledge of copyright law as it applies to photography is essential

You should be an organized, skilled communicator and an advocate for our photojournalists and photojournalism
This position may involve working nights/weekends and/or holidays
