Urban and Community Forestry Position with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC)

Salary: $52,146 annually

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Coordinate the Tree City USA and similar Arbor Day Foundation (ADF) programs for New York State, supporting regional DEC staff and ADF staff with regular communication, updates, and helpful materials. Develop and implement plans to increase participation in these programs.
  • Assist in the development and review of forestry and outreach & education related components of the Urban and Community Forestry (UCF) Grants Program for communities.
  • Coordinate Arbor Day School Poster Contest and other/alternative urban forestry-related programs for youth, including developing/gathering themes, lesson plans, and other materials for teachers, and coordinate DEC staff and partners.
  • Assist in the collection of participation data, and preparation of reports and formal correspondence.
  • Communicate and work with the coordination team, regional staff, other DEC programs, municipalities, volunteers, and partner organizations.
  • Work independently and as a supportive and productive member of a cohesive team. Must be detail oriented, highly organized and a good communicator.
  • Assist in the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of statewide Urban and Community Forestry programs as needed.
  • Utilize various tools and technologies including various webinar software, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.

Job Requirements:


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
On or before the date of appointment, the preferred candidate must possess the following:

  • A bachelor's or higher-level degree in forestry, environmental studies, or natural sciences.
  • Or a bachelor's or higher-level degree, including or supplemented by either 36 semester credit hours in at least two (2) of the following areas: forestry, environmental studies, natural sciences, geography, education, or two (2) years of environmental conservation-related experience, or a combination, thereof.
