Sayres is seeking Design Engineers, preferred with Confidential level Clearance or ability to obtain in support of NSWC PD (Philadelphia Division) in Philadelphia PA.

A hybrid work environment with some required on-site meetings is authorized for this position.

The Design Engineer will focus on technical requirements and planning, schedule, cost, resourcing, and risk management support for all life cycle phases of integrated Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) ship and ship systems including design, modification, alteration, installation, modernization and testing in support of the Navy's Land Based Test Site (LBTS).

  • Task support in the following areas: Graphic design (CAD), Conceptual Design, Preliminary Design, Detailed Design, Outfitting - Installation - Test - Evaluation, Design Logistics Documentation, Environmental Analysis.
  • Minimum Education - Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in any Engineering or business management discipline
  • 0-5 years (Junior); 5-10 Years (Mid); 10+ years (Senior) professional experience in mechanical, structural or electrical/electrical design

Design Engineer II - Bachelor's degree in engineering or Industrial Design and 3 years of professional experience in mechanical, structural or electrical/electronic design.

Design Engineer III - Bachelor's degree in engineering or Industrial Design and 7 years of professional experience in mechanical, structural or electrical/electronic design. Professional Engineering (PE) License highly desirable.

Design Engineer IV - Bachelor's degree and 10 years of professional experience in mechanical, structural or electrical/electronic design. Professional Engineering (PE) License is required.

Design engineers must be proficient in using computer-aided drafting (CAD) and be familiar with material specifications and fabrication methods; including 5 years of experience in the review and application of safety, mechanical, electrical and structural standards and codes to mechanical, electrical, structural, and fluid system design drawings.

Preferred Skillsets:

  • Experience with relevant HM&E systems include: Electrical Power Systems; Diesel Engines and Generators, Shipboard Propulsion Motors, Control Networks and Cabling, Machinery Shafting and Transmission Systems, Machinery Foundations, Piping Systems, Water Chillers and Chilled Water Systems, HVAC, Outfitting Systems, Auxiliary Equipment (pumps, compressors, fans, blowers, heat exchangers, etc.
