As a Development Associate at The Coding School (TCS), you will pioneer a rapidly expanding non-profit organization’s development arm and fundraising efforts. You will make a major impact on the programs we provide for students and expand our reach across the country and world.

TCS has successfully received sponsorship with Fortune 500 companies to develop global initiatives, formed partnerships with top research universities, and received federal funding to support multi-year national programs. TCS is looking for a Development Associate to help build upon these initial successes and achieve our annual $5 million fundraising goals. We are seeking a bright, outcome-oriented Development Associate to creatively identify and cultivate relationships with individuals, foundations, and corporations; organize fundraising events; identify grants and write proposals; and build out engagement strategy, including partnerships and sponsorships. The right candidate is an ambitious and entrepreneurial self-starter with exemplary oral and written skills who can effectively communicate the organization’s vision to external stakeholders.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Identify funding opportunities across a range of sources, including individual donors, grants, foundations, and corporations;
  • Source and scope government, corporate, and foundation grants ranging from $50,000 to $1+ million and prepare grant submissions, including writing and editing proposals, coordinating with partners, and developing budgets; and maintain required reporting to funding sources;
  • Identify donor prospects who have the potential to develop into major donors or interest in making planned gifts and help implement strategies to foster positive relationships;
  • Prepare reports and communication for financial obligations, including newsletters to donors, reports to corporate partners, and bi-annual reports for the Board;
  • Ensure TCS communications, including mailings, website, and social media, reflect development interests appropriately;
  • Work with the Executive Director and Managers to develop initiatives and programs to fulfill donor obligations or as strategic initiatives to foster new relationships;
  • Develop decks/presentations and other materials for prospective and current partners/stakeholders.

You might be a stellar Development Associate if you have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field (required);
  • 2 years experience in nonprofit fundraising (including knowledge in individual donor relations, grants and foundations, and corporation partnerships), internships, part-time, and full-time experience considered;
  • Experience in project management and event coordination;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with external stakeholders and establish credibility with diverse audiences, including corporations, individual donors and foundational directors;
  • Superior writing and presentation skills, experience writing grant proposals are a plus;
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to pay close attention to detail;
  • Self-starter, works well independently, and possess an entrepreneurial mindset with the confidence to take calculated risks;
  • Strong passion for making an impact in the lives of the next generation in particular via STEM education and increasing diversity in the tech industry;
  • Ability to travel, as needed;
  • Ability to work weekends, as needed.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
