The mission of VCU’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is to maximize philanthropic support by engaging stakeholders with our institution working in partnership with all VCU schools, programs and campuses as one development and alumni relations community and implementing the best practices and efficient strategies to achieve a comprehensive development program.
DAR is seeking a detail-oriented and resourceful Development Coordinator to support the Health and Wellness, Neurosciences and Psychiatry fundraising teams of the Office of Medical Philanthropy and Alumni Relations (MPAR). The Development Coordinator is a critical member of the team performing a wide variety of administrative, logistical, operational, and technical tasks in support of the aims of the Medical Philanthropy team. - Provide support for administrative needs, including but not limited to, managing calendars, supporting development officers with events, faculty support, letters, briefs, excel, budget, social media, and project management
- Coordinate, implement and track acknowledgement processes by drafting personal and detailed acknowledgement letters and other special correspondence and informing the major gift officer assigned to that donor
- Enter development actions with donors into VCU’s donor database
- Provide assistance with donor and gift intent data integrity to Gifts and Records Management, when issues of clarification arise
- Support donor relations projects and initiatives, including creating and tracking university gift agreements, assisting with correspondence/mailings/reports for endowment donors and donors in the university’s annual and planned giving societies
- Maintain a stewardship calendar, providing coordination and tracking annual reporting to our highest-level donors
- Assistance in assembling development proposals that are presented to prospective donors
- Determine matters that require the attention of others and refer and escalate as needed
- Maintain confidentiality while determining appropriate responses to sensitive and complex issues
- Think strategically, anticipate necessary actions, and provide support materials independently
- Anticipate project needs and discern priorities within budget and deadline

- Undergraduate degree from an accredited university or equivalent experience in a fast-paced, complex environment
- Ability to work both independently and part of a team
- Ability to manage time efficiently, prioritize work, and handle multiple projects simultaneously
- High level of customer service and excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to navigate complex working environments with multiple stakeholders and willing and able to ask for help as needed
- Motivated by mission-driven work
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment and commitment to do so as a professional employee at VCU
- Previous experience working in university advancement
