Job Summary

An experienced diesel truck and heavy equipment technician in our shop must be able to work on all makes trucks, tractors , trailers and heavy equipment. We value the following qualities in a prospective candidate:

  • certifications from OEM’s in the trucking and heavy equipment industry,
  • completion of manufacture's on-line training,
  • ability to use electronic diagnostic equipment, access technical information via the web.

Onsite training is provided to technicians to help them improve their skills; technicians are expected to keep current on training.

Job Responsibilities

  • Knowledge in diagnostics with Cat, Cummins, Detroit, ABS & transmissions systems
  • Working knowledge of engines, transmissions, differential, A/C, suspensions, final drives, swing drives and hydraulics.
  • Determine unit condition by conducting inspections & diagnostic tests, identifying deficiencies.
  • Able to read schematics for electrical, air and hydraulic systems.
  • Engine and chassis certifications preferred but ongoing training, online and in person, provided.
  • Computer skills for diagnostic programs and the ability to type repair story.
  • Use good judgment to maintain a safe & organized work environment.
  • Adhere to all PPE requirements.
  • Accept ownership for accomplishing new & different requests & exploring value added opportunities.
  • Apply knowledge and work in accordance with DOT, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other rules and regulations as required.
  • Other general shop duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: AA Diesel Technology, required. Certifications from OEM’s in the trucking and heavy equipment industry and/or ASE certifications a plus.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a production shop or dealership environment, preferred.

Skills: Solid working knowledge of power tools required to perform all phases of truck/chassis repair, heavy equipment repair and maintenance. Demonstrate ability to perform all phases of heavy-duty diesel equipment and services . Must be professional and safety minded at all times. Candidates must be able to work with others in a fast paced environment to perform top quality work. Should possess good communication skills to accurately explain diagnosis and repair story. Techs must be able follow company procedures for paperwork, warranty, safety, and cleanliness.

Other: Must have valid driver’s license and be insurable; CDL not required but desirable. A full complement of tools including wrenches and sockets up to 1 ¼’ as well as ¼”, 3/8” and ½” drive sockets, air tools, floor creeper and a roll around tool cabinet is required (see GTC tool list). Some locations may have need of fabrication (welding and use of oxygen acetylene torches).

JOB CONDITIONS:

Physical: Working in, under, and around trucks, trailers and heavy equipment indoors/outdoors in all seasons. Ability to lift, push or pull, objects of various shapes, sizes and weights (up to 50 pounds regularly). Safely walk, reach, bend, climb, push, twist, squat and kneel as necessary to perform the essential job duties. Safely walk and stand for extended periods of time.

Environmental: Indoor and Outdoor Work. High noise level. Coveralls, ear and eye protection provided.

Hours: Must be available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, night and weekends.

The Location:

We are located in Mount Vernon just north of Highway 20 in beautiful Skagit Valley. The worksite is a fully operational Construction & Demolition recycling center which has frequent traffic, dust and noise.
