Responsibilities

Reporting to the Food Service Supervisor and Manager of Nutrition and Food, the Dietary Aide is to perform duties related to the assembly and safe service of food to patients, staff, visitors and nursing home residents, and all other duties assigned by the Food Service Supervisor.


Routine job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepares and delivers patient trays and nourishments according to the therapeutic diet order
  • Serves and responsible for working the cash in the cafeteria
  • Assists with preparing food carts
  • Portioning some menu items
  • Scrapes, rinses, and washes the dishes
  • Responsible for the proper storage of food and paper cleaning supplies
  • Keeps kitchen clean and sanitary
  • Empties and cleans garbage cans in kitchen
  • Keeps work area clean and sanitary at all times
  • Assists in the orientation of new personnel


Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Completion of a Food Safety Training Program or willingness to obtain Able to read and write and to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Other duties that may be assigned as they become necessary to the operation of the hospital
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment and also effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Commitment to confidentiality and privacy of NSHA patients and clients
  • Annually access the training and education on patient, client and personal safety made available by NSHA
  • Commitment to maintain and protect patient, client, and personal safety on an ongoing basis
  • The successful applicant will have a commitment to the mission and values of Nova Scotia Health Experience in institutional food services an asset
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred

$19.16 - $19.92 Hourly
