Job Overview:

As part of the LGUS South Region, the business development director will aggressively lead the business development work process by working directly with the South Region sales team, Linde industry subject matter experts, potential customers, and by managing and following up on business development tracking opportunities.

Addresses a wide variety of demands with precise control of objectives and priorities. Defines elements of business acquisition strategy within business development. Reviews objectives and priorities in collaboration with sales and Linde region management. Collaborates with Linde industry subject matter experts (e.g., steel, chemical, renewables, electronics) as needed to give Linde an advantage in acquiring new business opportunities, often long-term in nature. Creates purpose and vision for own sales area that supports larger organizational goals. Participates on cross-business/ cross-functional or special project teams. Works closely with capital director, merchant BD, large project business development, and Linde Engineering. Objective is to make Linde the industrial gas solutions provider for our customers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Creates and manages business development strategy that results in the accomplishment of region’s business development objectives of which you have significant input
  • Accountable for delivering the assigned area annual business plan results related to growth
  • Play a direct role in defining business unit product and sales direction, providing functional guidance and expertise for strategic and tactical decisions
  • Reviews and helps set appropriate BD objectives for sales against KPIs
  • Sets goals and tactics for business growth, including regularly reviewing BD opportunity reports with sales and region management
  • Monitors the overall BD plans to ensure compliance with long and short-term goals and tactics, strategies, and negotiation plans
  • Validates business opportunities, often across business units, including identifying business alternatives, in preparation of proposals and in contract negotiation
  • Manages expenses and keeps budget in line with corporate strategies
  • Assists the sales team in building and maintaining business relationships with customers’ senior management levels, leveraging the Linde organization to strengthen and broaden those relationships.
  • Capable of negotiating long-term, project based, sophisticated agreements
  • Must be willing to represent the customer’s interest internally to allow for Linde to present solutions

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; capable of delivering messages to wide array of audiences in a clear, compelling, and concise manner.
  • Must attentively listen to others and be mentally agile
  • Must have minimum of ten (10) years’ commercial experience, or business or project development or similar experience.
  • Ideal candidate will have experience in contracting large on-site or pipeline supply.
  • Proven track record of demonstrated success in cross-collaboration efforts
  • Must be willing to travel at least 25% of the time
