Position Description:
Developmental Disabilities Service Organization (DDSO) services are provided by a team of responsible, caring, and compassionate Direct Support Professionals (DSP) who develop services based on a Person-Centered approach. DSPs are highly dependable and have a passion for helping those with intellectual and developmental disabilities live a more fulfilled and happy life.

Under the direct supervision of the Short Center South (SCS) Program Director, and in accordance with DDSOs established polices and in compliance with all Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) regulations the DSP is responsible for providing a safe environment and approach their role with compassion and empathy to assist and courage participants to learn, grow and become more independent in the community.

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is primarily responsible for utilizing designed training strategies to assist program participants in choosing their activities, goals and objectives, while fostering the outcomes of Person Centered selected goals and objectives by developing, coordinating, evaluating, and daily implementation of training strategies so clients can meet their chosen goals.

The DSP will support each individual's efforts to make informed and responsible choices, take action upon those choices, become participating members of the community, and enhance the quality of their lives. Areas of skill training can include but not be limited to the following areas: community living; self-advocacy; personal growth; home living; employment; volunteering; and the arts.

There may be instances that a DSP will need to connect remotely at home via Zoom. Access to a reliable computer and internet is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Be compassionate, patient and encouraging and assists in the implementation of clients' and Person Center and HCBS Individual Service Plans (ISP)

Provide daily training to clients in the most natural environment that meets their objective.

Maintain the safety and well being of clients.

Collect and summarize data on clients' progress toward selected goals and objectives.

Maintain client records and reports, including but not limited to, Individual Service Plans (ISPs).

Maintain a consistent and structured teaching environment.

Provide input to the Program Director regarding skill training requirements, client requests, instructional materials, and other policies and procedures.

Develop and implement individual client objectives in accordance with client's person-centered plan (PCP) and guidelines as set forth by California Department of Developmental Services and DDSO.

Provide art instruction in the following, but not limited to: Recycled Art, Ceramics, Mosaics, Drawing, Painting, 2D and 3D Art.

Provide music instruction with various instruments, music notes, listening to and teaching music.

Assist in the daily scheduling of clients community training or on-site-support training.

Conduct or attend individual ISP and PCP meetings as directed by the Program Director.

Maintain contact with clients' homes and maintain continuity between program service training and home environment.

Make contacts with community resources and develop opportunities for clients to be participating members of the community.

Be the liaison between staff and client employers and/or volunteer coordinators.

Assist in lifting and transferring clients for the purpose of personal care, or into a vehicle for transportation.

Other duties as assigned.

Job Expectations:
Create and maintain skill training that promotes learning, addresses clients' expressed needs, and respects the health, safety, dignity, and rights of clients.

Adhere to the training principles of person-centered planning and positive programming.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Work cooperatively and effectively with clients, other staff members, parents, care providers, other agencies within the system, and the general public.

Maintain records accurately and carry out necessary written assignments.

Be willing to participate in professional growth activities, i.e. seminars, workshops, as assigned by Program Director.

Required Experience:
Provide proof of a current COVID-19 vaccination and Booster(s).

Skill and knowledge of the visual arts field preferred.

Skill and knowledge of the musical arts field preferred.

Experience in a human services delivery system, preferred.

Must possess a valid California driver's license and an approved driving record as stated in the DDSO Personnel Policies, and provide personal auto insurance coverage and meet DDSO standards if using own vehicle for program related activities.

Must be able to meet the following standards established by the Department of Social Services - Community Care Licensing Division: be in good physical health verified by a health screening report (including the ability to regularly lift and transport clients, and a test for tuberculosis); criminal record clearance; be at least 18 years old.

Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

Compensation: $15.50 per hour, plus Sick Leave and Vacation hours, shared dental premiums and opportunity to voluntarily contribute to a 401k retirement plan.

This position will not be eligible for benefits.
