WoodmenLife is looking to add a Director of Application Services to our team!

The Director Application Services directs the long-term strategic plan and provides direction and oversight to the full software development lifecycle and are responsive to WoodmenLife’s strategic plan. Provides operational leadership to application services associates, ensures that the delivery of all products and services within their purview meet performance criteria based on IT metrics, and maintains effective working relationships with stakeholders.

Essential Job Functions:
Provides vision, direction and oversight to Engineering, Quality, DevSecOps, and Analysis teams.

Strong background in agile methodologies and ability to mentor others in their use.

Bridge communications between the business and IT teams and take full ownership of the product development lifecycle in-line with Agile principles

Work closely with product owners, vendor partners, and technical leads to influence scope and priorities for product development.

Work closely with the department leadership teams to explore new technologies and promote an agile culture

Advance architecture, process, and tools through innovation, cutting edge technology and research

Drive continuous improvement and automates tools, processes, and technology to allow for greater engineering throughput, quality, capabilities, skills and delivery

Able to measure organizational progress and health through metrics and results

Foster great business relationships by partnering with key stakeholders and cross functional leadership teams

Work with IT Operations in developing a DevSecOps strategy for the build and deployment of software solutions

Partner with leadership to manage and extend DevSecOps through the corporate systems environment.

Investigate and champion new technologies that will allow us to operate more effectively and deliver more value to our teams and customers.

Utilize data to drive decisions around future product enhancements and operational improvements.

Participates as a governance team member on WoodmenLife’s Lean Portfolio Management Office, including Agile, Cloud, Architecture and Business Intelligence.

Assist in definition of technology roadmaps, products and improvements aligned with appropriate product and business roadmaps.
Coordinates and drives the business relationship with key internal partners and significant external partners.

Develops IT business plans and budget plans for Application Services that support both the long-term and short-term objectives of the company.
Accountable for financial dimensions of area.
Develops, reviews, and approves budget recommendations across Application Services and ultimately compiling into a total budget recommendation. Identifies and implements cost saving opportunities in area. Approves disbursement of Organization funds within parameters.

Identifies, recommends, and implements process improvements, enhancements, and product improvements which includes opportunities for continuous improvement to service, efficiency, and cost reduction.
Adapts quickly to changing business objectives and takes appropriate action to remove barriers to division performance and success.

Acts as an internal consultant/change agent while working closely with senior management to identify, analyze, address, and implement strategic solutions to meet organizational needs.
Personnel duties including hiring talent, professional growth of direct reports, vendor management, building new teams
Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications:
This job requires a background that demonstrates the following minimum knowledge, skills, talents and traits:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Minimum of 10+years of experience in a leadership role in an IT environment.

Experience leading an Application Development or Architecture group.

Experience leading team(s) in an agile practices, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) experience is a plus

Experience leading Practices: Site Reliability Engineering, Monitoring, Application Resiliency/Failover/Fault Tolerance, Unit Testing, DevSecOps, CI/CD, Test Automation, SOA, Microservices, Application Security

Experience with cloud services specifically Microsoft Azure.

Experience successfully working with internal and outsourced / offshore staffing models

Demonstrated ability to resolve resource constraints.

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with staff and senior management.

Demonstrated ability to plan initiatives and partner with business units to achieve results consistent with business objectives.

Demonstrated experience in successfully implementing extensive system changes and enhancements.

Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to develop teams advancing knowledge and skills to align with business needs.

Ability to maintain a strong understanding of customer’s business requirements, processes, and objectives.

Demonstrated experience in best practices for applications development and architecture.

Demonstrated change management skills required, including proven experience with negotiation, facilitation, and implementation of change.

Ability to engage well with others and be passionate about providing an exemplary customer experience.
