Duties: SUNY New Paltz invites applications for the position of Director of the Disability Resource Center (DRC). Reporting to the Assistant Vice President/Dean of Students, the Director of the DRC coordinates the overall administration of the Center, including managing state and auxiliary accounts in excess of $330,000 as well as supervision of three other professionals, an Administrative Assistant, and graduate assistants. The successful candidate is expected to have experience with a full range of disabilities (physical, sensory, learning, neurological, mental health, medical, etc.). The Director works closely with State and local agencies that provide services and/or funding to students with disabilities, and communicate on an as-needed basis regarding students to facilitate transition planning or determine academic accommodation needs.
- Pre-admission consultation for individuals seeking academic accommodations under ADA, Section 504 and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Supervising the review of all documentation pertaining to student’s disabilities and determining and assigning reasonable academic accommodations.
- Serve as an initial contact and works closely with all student services providers to ensure that student’s access needs are being met.
- Serve as the primary advocate and liaison to the campus and external community regarding the academic and non-academic needs of students with disabilities.
- Serve as a resource for the campus community and a liaison to Academic Deans, Associate Deans, and faculty on compliance issues relating to ADA and Section 504 and 508 as needed.
- Articulate recommendations to improve campus accessibility including buildings, walkways, classrooms, testing and housing accommodations Serve on various campus committees where inclusion and access are addressed.
- Coordinate outreach and communication to prospective students (first year and transfer) and their families about DRC services and documentation requirements.
- Oversight of the overall maintenance of confidential data and records related to disabled students and development of an annual assessment plan and report.
- Participate in the NYS Disability Services Council to stay apprised of changing legislation and best practices – attend yearly training and meetings.
- Expected to have a consistent campus presence supporting the core hours of the university. Occasionally requires attendance at weekend or evening events, travel for professional development or SUNY system meetings.

- Master’s degree in a related field.
- At least five or more years of experience as a full-time professional in disability services administration on a college campus.
- Knowledge of ADA, Section 504 and Section 508
- At least three years of progressive supervision of professional and support staff
- Working knowledge of AHEAD standards, and the incorporation of a “social justice model”
- Professional experience assessing clinical documentation such as Psychological Evaluations related to high school IEPs or 504 Plan accommodations
- Strong public speaking skills
- Experience training groups
- Experience using Microsoft Suite of Products including One Drive and Teams
- Training in Autism and spectrum disorders, the social justice model, and educational technologies as they relate to disability services
- Experience using Accommodate
- Experience using Starfish
- Knowledge of HUD regulations as they apply to student housing
