Director of Compliance Job at ALS Education, LLC
The Director of Compliance role is to expand current organizational culture of compliance from exclusively regulatory, to inclusive of compliance with the processes, procedures and best practices that define the ALS model
- Maintain a deep and up-to-date understanding of the ALS Model (Operational and Instructional) and the many overlapping regulatory requirements
- Build, maintain and effectively communicate an integrated compliance framework that captures all regulatory requirements to which ALS/ALS schools are subject
- Update the compliance framework when there are changes to SOM, laws, rules, and contractual obligations
- Map the compliance framework to SOM by including key compliance processes and ensuring that internal policies align with external regulation (emphasis on checklists and tools)
- Work with the LT and other key Operations Team members to establish an audit plan that checks for adherence to policies and regulations
- Establish collaborative relationships with ET and LT members to ensure an effective communication plan related to regular training, audit, and vulnerability management
- Provide comprehensive and actionable feedback to school leadership
- Prepare concise, regular updates to the ET on all compliance-related issues
- Maintain a deep and up-to-date understanding of the contractual compliance requirements for each jurisdiction to include due dates of all compliance deliverables
- Be familiar with each jurisdictions’ compliance reporting portals and ensure ALS access
- Serve as the organization’s expert on the contractual requirements for each jurisdiction and provide guidance to the ET on future contractual agreements
- Partner with the ET and LT to build relationships with key regulators at the federal, state, and local levels across the ALS system
- Prepare concise, regular updates to the ET and proactively seek guidance
- Lead vulnerability management with the CEO in any circumstance in which a compliance violation is apparent or reported
- Work collaboratively with the Coordinator of Special Populations and the Special Populations PD Specialist to stay abreast of all regulations (local, state and federal) related to special populations
- Ensure that the compliance framework integrates key reporting in the area of special populations while avoiding data entry or process redundancies that are inefficient and demotivating to the field
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Training and Professional Development to ensure an effective organizational training and development plan aligned to compliance regulations
- Represent the organization as the lead for special population compliance in regulatory audits, presentations, business development initiatives and mediations
- Work collaboratively with the Coordinator of Grants & Federal Programs to stay abreast of all regulations (local, state and federal) related to all allocations, grants and federal programs that ALS schools are part of
- Work collaboratively with the Regional Directors to ensure that all current and potential grant/title funding opportunities are applied for and administered correctly
- Work collaboratively with the finance team to ensure effective communication and financial compliance of all grants and title funding
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Highly organized and detail orientated
- Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills
- Ability to understand legal texts and legislation then translate them to key staff in a way that can be metabolized across all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated persistence in obtaining clear and definitive answers when guidance is opaque
- Ability to manage large amounts of information and organize it efficiently and in compliance with defined regulation
- Ability to make quick decisions on how to handle compliance issues independently
- Expert in Excel and other Microsoft Products
Education and Experience Required
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, business, law or related field
- Experience in education industry a plus
- Experience and success leading groups of 10 or more toward the accomplishment of a defined set of outcomes
- Critical mass of experience in at least one organization with relatively mature processes and systems
- Experience in writing and implementing policies and procedures
